    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 7, 1952 Ozawkie Man Kills Self in Store. Lawrence.--Roy E. STEFFEY, 64, a retired Ozawkie farmer, entered Green Brothers Hardware Store here Wednesday afternoon, bought a rifle, and then shot and killed himself. A store employee, C.E. WILCOX, told police that after Steffey bought the gun and a box of .22 cartridges, he asked how to load it and Wilcox showed him. He said another customer cautioned Steffey about carrying a loaded gun. Steffey then removed the shell and walked to the front of the store. No Witnesses. A few moments later, employees and customers in the rear of the store heard Steffey's body fall to the floor. No one was near him and no one saw it happen. Jesse ROUTH, a clerk in the store, said Steffey had been in the store earlier in the afternoon looking at pistols but didn't buy one. Mrs. Hallie Steffey, wife of the victim said she and her husband arrived in Lawrence at about 1 p.m. and left their car at a garage for repairs. He said he would wait in the car while she went uptown to shop. Hand Been In Hospital. Mrs. Steffey said her husband had been released from Vail Hospital in Topeka Monday. Examinations there had revealed nothing serious, but he had been despondent over his health, she said. Steffey is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Steffey, Ozawkie; three daughters, Mrs. Lex BRUNTON, Perry, Mrs. Delvis BRADSHAW, Belleville, and Miss Verla Lee Steffey, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Earl BARKER, Topeka, anfour brothers, Ira Steffey, Topeka, Floyd and Kenneth Steffey, Ozawkie, and Raymond Steffey, Oskaloosa. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Brethren Church at Ozawkie with burial in Ozawkie Cemetery.
