The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday April 7, 1936 Killed In Car Crash. Mrs. Forest Cooper, 19, Dies When Car Turns Over. Mrs. Forest COOPER, 19, of 521 Monroe street, was fatally injured and three other persons narrowly escaped death early yesterday morning when a DeSoto sedan driven by Kenneth HORSLEY, 105 Burgess street, turned over just north of the Soldier creek bridge on the Central Aveune road. Dean Rogers, sheriff, declared it was clearly a case of too much speed while trying to make the S turn. The car rolled over end over end 300 feet and after barely missing two trees and jumping over a bush, it finally came to a stop right side up in a yard. Mrs. COOPER died from a fracture at the base of the skull on the way to the hospital. Juanita Black, 321 East Second street, was badly bruised and was taken home. Horsley and his brother, Franklin Horsley escaped with a few minor bruises. Sheriff Rogers termed it a case of gross negligence and declared that something should be done to put a stop to such fast driving on the highways. Dr. H.L. Clark, county coroner, announced that an inquest will be held. After borrowing the car from Elmer Howard, employe of The Daily Capital mailing room, Kenneth Horsley said he picked up the two women and then went to the Yellow Cab Co. office and picked up his brother. They were taking a ride before taking the women home when the accident occured. It was the second fatal accident in eight days when a motor car driven by one who was not the owner left the road and was turned over. The other victim was Mrs. Grace Robinson who was killed on the same highway a short distance north of the one yesterday, near the county poor farm road when the car missed a curve.
