The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday October 4, 1951 V.L. King, Former State Official, Dies. Victor L. KING, 63, former state motor vehicle commissioner and a lifelong resident of Kansas, died Wednesday in a Topeka hospital after a long illness. Mr. King was born November 5, 1887, in Atchison and formerly was active in Republican politics in that county. He was appointed state motor vehicle commissioner by Governor Clyde M. Reed in 1929. He held this office for four years and afterward continued to make Topeka his permanent home. He was a candidate for state insurance commissioner in 1938 but lost in the primaries by a small margin. He was engaged in war work during World War II. In 1944, he joined the Pioneer Life Insurance Co. as the home office field representative. He continued his associations with the company until his death. Harry W. Colmery, president of the company, said King made an outstanding record. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret King, of the home, 3521 Yorkway; and two daughters, Mrs. O.L. Barnett, Manhattan, and Miss Victoria King, San Francisco. The funeral will be a 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict's Church in Atchison with burial in Atchison Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary.
