The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday November 30, 1927 Pioneer Woman Dead. Mrs. George S. Burt Last Survivor Of Colony Coming in 1857. Mrs. George S. BURT, aged 83, the last surviving member of the Beecher, Dible and Rifle colony which settled Wabausee in 1857 from New Haven, Conn., and organizer of the Wabaunsee Congregational church, died at her home, 1519 Fillmore street, last night. Mrs. Burt moved here five years ago from Wabaunsee. She is survived by six sons, a sister, Hattie I. Isbe of Kansas City, Mo., 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The sons are: Frank I. Burt of Scott City; George S. Burt of Samuels, Idaho; Henry F. Burt of Providence, R.I.; Sherman D. Burt of Sacramento, Calif.; Charles L. Burt of Minneapolis, Minn.; and Louis L. Burt of Topeka. The funeral will be at Wabaunsee with the time of services to be announced later. the body will lie in state at the Penwell mortuary preceding the services.
