The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday August 29, 1961 Topeka Man, John Synder, Is Dead at 83. John Phillip SNYDER, 83-year-old retired blacksmith died at his home in the Gerye Hotel Monday. Born in Stebuenville, Ohio, he had lived in Topeka the past 10 years. Most of his life was spent in Broughton and Clay Center. He was a Spanish-American War veteran and a member of the Clay Center Methodist Church, Modern Woodmen of America and American War Dads. Surviving are two sons, Clifford, 2800 Ohio, and Morgan, Clay Center; one daughter, Ms. Gaye MALL, Clay Center; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Neill Schwensen Mortuary, Clay Center. The body will lie in state at McMichael Memorial Home in Topeka this evening. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center. Austin Funeral Home at Eskridge is in charge of arrangements.
