    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 25, 1910 Simple Funeral For Jonathan Thomas. Modest And Brief, Characteristic of the Man. Dr. S.S. Estey in Charge of Services--House Almost Filled With Floral Offerings. The funeral services of Jonathan THOMAS were held yesterday at his late residence, 515 Harrison street, at 4 o'clock. The service was simple and brief, being charactertistic of Mr. Thomas' life, which was modest and reserved. All his charities and educational donations were given without the slightest pretense of show. Dr. S.S. Estey, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, who was in charge of the service, read passages from Psalms and the Fourteenth chapter of John. The service was closed by a simple prayer consoling the bereaved relatives and friends. The body was laid to rest in the family vault at the Topeka cemetery. Only the immediate family was present at the burial. The attendance at the funeral showed that the deceased had many friends in the city. The home yesterday afternoon was filled to overflowing with sympathetic friends. From 9 to 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning a procession of friends passed through the Thomas home to view the body, which lay in state. A profusion of beautiful flowers filled the room. Roses, lillies and carnations made into wreaths and other decorations filled the entire house. Every known design of the florist's art was among the display. The chimes at Washburn college, which were donated by Mr. Thomas to the school, were silence yesterday afternoon in memory of the donor and between the hours of 5 and 6 o'clock the bells tolled at minute intervals. The honorary pallbearers at the funeral were: Frank Knight Sanders, Dr. L.Y. Grubbs, J.D. Hathaway, Judge T.F. Garver, George M. Noble, T.B. Sweet, F.M. Spencer and Judge J.G. Slonecker. The active pallbearers were: W.S. Bergundthal, J.B. Whelan, John Steele, Edgar May, George Erickson, D.L. Blair, H.G. Buechner and Paul Huycke.
