The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday October 7, 1951 Miss Carol Lee Haefele Dies; Victim of Polio. Carol Lee HAEFELE, 20, the daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Haefele, died of poliomyelitis Saturday in a Topeka hospital. She was born here October 7, 1930, and had been a resident of Topeka all her life. Miss Haefele was a nurse at St. Francis Hospital. She was a graduate of Hayden High School and St. Francis School of Nursing and was a member of the Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. In addition to her parents she is survived by five brothers, John and Richard of Topeka; M/Sgt. Edward in Japan, Sgt. Max. in San Diego, and S/Sgt. James, Randolph Field, Texas; and four sisters, Mrs. R.W. Robinson, Vallejo, Calif., Mrs. Norman D. Merryman, Topeka, and Mary and Ethel of the home. The body will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Holy Name Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. the family has asked that friends forego flowers, suggesting contributions to the Polio Fund instead.
