The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday January 10, 1951 John R. Johnson. John R. JOHNSON, 75, pioneer Topeka motorcar dealer, died Tuesday morning at his home, 618 Buchanan. Mr. Johnson was born April 13, 1875, in Kirkville, Iowa, and had been a resident of Topeka 65 years. He started his career in the motorcar industry as a foreman in the SMith Automobile Factory in Topeka, manufacturer of the Great Smith car. In 1914 he started his own business as dealer for the Oakland and Hudson cars and remained in the business until he retired in October 1945. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Topeka Lodge, No. 17, A.F.& A.M., Topeka Commandery No. 5, Knights Templar and the Arab Shrine. He is survived by a son, Thomas R. JOHNSON of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Allen Rausch, San Diego, Calif. and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Interment will be in Topeka Cemetery.
