The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 27, 1951 Mrs. Dora Green, City Jail Matron, Dies at 72. Mrs. Dora GREEN, 72, matron at the city jail, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.W. FLOHRSCHUTZ, near Berryton. She became ill Saturday with a heart ailment and went to her daughter's home. She suffered another heart attack Monday afternoon. She had been a jail matron 18 years and her consistent policy of giving women prisoners fair treatment while under her care attracted much attention. Every Christmas she received cards from all parts of the United States from former prisoners who regarded her as a friend. She became a jail matron in January, 1933, when Dean Rogers assumed his duties as sheriff. Seh moved from the county to the city jail as matron when the late Herbert G. Barrett became mayor in 1937. She served as city jail matron continually since. She was born May 11, 1878, at Olenthis, Mo., and had made her home in the vicinity of Topeka since childhood. For many years, she made her home on a farm near Auburn. She was a member of of Helena Chapter No. 210 O.E.S. and the Kansas State Peace Officers Association. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flohrschutz, Berryton, and Mrs. Webb COPPINGER, Route 8; a son, Paul GREEN, Route 7; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, H.E. TAYLOR, Topeka, and Earl J. TAYLOR, Cheyenne, Wyo., and serveral nieces and nephews.
