The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday March 24, 1951 Sergeant Hurt as Bullet Explodes in Fire. M/Sgt. Charles J. HASTINGS was in Forbes Air Force Base hospital Friday night suffering from a bullet wound in his shoulder. He was buring trash at his home in Burlingame when a .22 caliber bullet, evidently in the fire, exploded and struck him in the shoulder. He was taken to Winter Veterans Hospital where it was removed and he was returned to the Air Base. His condition was reported as good by the WVA staff doctors.
