    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday December 27, 1960 Former Legislator, Karl W. Root, Dies. Services for Karl W. ROOT, former state legislator and local official of Atchison, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Atchison with graveside services at 3:30 p.m. today at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka. He died Sunday at his home following a heart attack. He was 50. A native of Topeka, Mr. Root was a graduate of Washburn University Law School. He moved to Atchison in 1937. He worked in the Securities Department, Kansas Corporation Commission from 1935 to 1937. He was assistant city attorney of Atchison from 1937 to 1942 and county attorney from 1942 to 1947. Mr. Root also served as city manager of Atchison in 1939 and was director of the Atchison Urban Renewal project. He servied in both Kansas House and Senate. Mr. Root was the son-in-law of former Mayor and Mrs. Herbert G. BARRETT, 812 Lindenwood. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lorainne Root of the home; two sons, William Root of San Francisco and Tom Root, a student at Washburn University and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William P. Root, 2808 Ohio.
