    3. The Topeka Daily Tuesday December 27, 1960 H.A. French Is Dead at 83; Services Set. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Kansas Avenue Methodist Church for Herbert A. FRENCH, 83, 1134 Huntoon, who died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 19, 1877, on a farm near Silver Lake and came to Topeka as a young man. He worked as an electrician for the Santa Fe Railroad in Newton from 1900 to 1911 when he came back to Topeka. Mr. French then was employed in the store department of the railroad until he retired in 1947. He was a member of Kansas Avenue Methodist Church for 50 years where he served as Sunday school teacher, trustee, lay leader, chairman of the board of the church and music director. He also was a member of the Santa Fe Oldtimer's Club. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mennie G. French of the home; two daughters, Eva French of the home and Ruth French of Kansas City, Kan.; six sons, the Rev. L. Theron French of Newborn, Ohio, the Rev. Carlton C. French of Salina, Orrin C. French, 1918 N. Quincy, Vernon M. French, 1245 Medford, Freeman G. French, 1245 Medford, and Glen D. French of Northridge, Calif.; two stepsons, Samuel L. FOSTER of Eagle, Wisc., and Donald J. FOSTER, 232 N. Knox; 22 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state from noon until 10 a.m. today at Parker Mortuary. Burial will be in the Rochester Cemetery.
