    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 25, 1954 Edward E. Patterson, Retired Fireman, Dies. Edward E. "Pat" PATTERSON, 61, retired city fireman, died Wednesday morning in a Topeka hospital after a long illness. He was born April 21, 1892 at Melvern and served in France with the 89th Division during World War I. He joined the Topeka Fire Department September 26, 1919, shortly after he was discharged from the Army and remained on the department until he voluntarily retired February 18, 1943. He was at headquarters fire station until March 1, 1939, when he transferred to No. 5 station. He later was chief of the fire department at Winter Veterans Hospital for two years. He then entered the real estate business in Topeka. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church, Topeka Lodge No. 17, A.F. & A.M., the Arab Shrine, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Brackman PATTERSON, of the home, 1121 Polk; and an uncle Clifford PATTERSON of Newton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
