The Topeka Daily Capital Friday November 11, 1927 Teacher For Many Years. J.C. Banta Was County Superintendent in Douglas County. J.C. BANTA, 71, who died Monday in Carthage, Mo., a former resident of Topeka, was educated at baker university at Kansas university and for many years served as a teacher in grade schools and as county superintendent of schools in Douglas county. At one time he taught in the Kansas university. He was interested in the growing of fruit and devoted much time to this business and in 1920 retired from active commercial life. He was fond of outdoor life and spent many winters in the south and in Canada. In 1880 he married Margaret MORRISON. There were nine children. Surviving him are his widow, one daughter and six sons.
