The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday December 20, 1960 Charles Steele Of St. Marys Dies At Age 87. Charles John STEELE, 87, of St. Marys died Monday after a long illness. He was born Dec. 22, 1872, at Eksja, Sweden, and came to the St. Marys community in 1890, settling on a farm north of town. He was a member of the Lutheran Church at St. Marys and a charter member of the St. Marys Farmers Union which was formed in 1919. Mr. Steele married Esther A. HALLQUIST in 1899 and they observed their 60th wedding anniversary May 24, 1959. Survivors include his widow of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Ellen KARGACIN of Anaconda, Mont., Mrs. Ruby REZAC of Rossville, Mrs. Alemdea CARLSON of Kansas City, and Mrs. Adeline RADEMACHER of Kansas City; two sons, Harold Steele of Emmett and Clifford Steele of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Verschelden Funeral Chapel in St. Marys with burial in Valley View Cemetery at St. Marys. The body will lie in state from 5 p.m today until service time.
