    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday August 22, 1961 W.M. Bashor. W.M. BASHOR, retired employe of the Business Men's Assurance Co., was stricken while bowling with friends Monday and was dead on arrival at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was 68. His companions said Mr. Bashor had finished bowling a frame at Southwest Bowl, 29th and Fairlawn. A few minutes later he slumped forward without a sound. Mr. Bashor was connected with Business Men's Assurance Co., for nearly 30 years and before that in Florence. He leaves a widow, Corrine and one son, John, an art instructor at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan.

Born at Chilhowee, Mo., he was employed in missile site construction at Schilling AFB, Salina, and had lived in Topeka four years. He was a member of El Dorado Nazarene Church. Surviving are his widow, Helen; four sons, Phillip and Paul, at home, Darrell of Ridley, Calif., and James of Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Irene McDONALD of Knobnoster, Mo.; two brothers, Marion of Centerville, Mo., and Bincel of Chilhowee; and one sister, Ima of California.

Born March 13, 1897, in the Urkraine, he had been employed 42 years by the Cleveland Electrical Illuminating Co. He was a member of the Ukraine National Aid Association. Survivors include two sons, Steve of 531 N. Kansas and Wally of 110 Fillmore, and two grandchildren. Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Name Catholic Church with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

He was born in Bristol, Tenn., and lived in Topeka for 38 years. He was an employe of the Santa Fe Railroad shops and Washburn University and was a fireman-engineer at Forbes Air Force Base for 13 years until his retirement in 1957. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board for several years. He was named deacon emeritus. He was a former president of the church brotherhood group. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary JOHNSON at home; a daughter, Miss Eunice Johnson, at home; a son, Dr. James S. Johnson, of Kansas City and three grandsons.     3. The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday August 19, 1961 Mrs. Shumate, 85, Topekan, Dies at Home. Mrs. Marie A. SHUMATE, a native Kansan, died Friday at her home, 1132 Quincy. She was 85. Born Nov. 17, 1875, near Perry, Mrs. Shumate was one of 10 children of the late John and Katherine KILLINGER, who came to Kansas as pioneers. After living a short time near Lawrence and in Jefferson County, they settled on a farm southwest of Topeka. Mrs. Shumate married James A. Shumate, March 7, 1900, and celebrated a golden wedding anniversary in 1950 before her husband died June 16 to that year. Five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Shumate suffered a stroke five years ago. Survivors include a son, LaVerne J. Shumate of 718 Oakland; two daughters, Miss Katherine L. Shumate at home, and Mrs. Harold E. NAILL of 1715 Pembroke Lane, and a sister, Mrs. John SNYDER of 1621 Collins. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Q. Davidson of the Seabrook Congregational Church, will officiate.

He leaves his widow, Elizabeth, at home; four sons, Howard of Gary, Ind., Leon of Fort Riley, Leroy Jr., of Omaha, and Bernard, serving with the armed forces in Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby OLSON and Mrs. Ernestine WILSON, both of Omaha; two brothers, Walter of Eugene, Ore., and Lewis of Delia; and one sister, Mrs. Kate MARTIN, of Topeka.     3. The Topeka Daily Capital Friday August 18, 1961 Charles A. Ewings. Holton.--Charles Alvin EWINGS, Arrington farmer and carpenter, was killed Wednesday night when the tractor with which he was plowing dropped over the bank of a creek and fell on him. He was 51. Mr. Ewings had told his wife, Ruthe, he was going to plow late. She found his body about 10 p.m, after he failed to return to the house. Born at Oakley, he lived near Arrington and Holton for the past 30 years. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Topeka Local 1445. Surviving are a brother, George, at home; a sister, Mrs. Irene ROBISON of Mayetta; and a stepson, Elbert TORSON of Wichita. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home, with burial in Denison Cemetery.
