The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday October 3, 1965 Rites Set for Man Killed in Accident. Perry--Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Church here for Clarence LeRoy TABBERT, 25, Perry, who was electrocuted Saturday after the truck he was driving struck a power pole near Perry. An official of the Jefferson County sheriff's department said Tabbert, who was hauling sand for the Perry Reservoir project, lost the back tandem of his dump truck on a curve, causing him to lost control of the vehicle. The truck plunged off the road after striking the pole, but remained upright. Tabbert apparently jumped from the vehicle, but power line fell on his foot, officials said. The accident occurred on a county road about a mile south of the dam site. He was born June 12, 1940 near Oskaloosa. He was a member of the Methodist Church at Perry. He was employed by the Meier's Rapid Dump Trucking, a firm with offices in Topeka. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cara Lee Tabbert, and two daughters, Regina Lee Tabbert, and Julia Annette Tabbert, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tabbert, Perry; two sisters, Judith Ann Tabbert and Linda Lou Tabbert, both of Perry; and grandparents, Mrs. Anna Tabbert, Perry, and Mrs. Agnes JAMES, Lecompton. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery near Perry. Hampton Funeral Home at Oskaloosa is in charge of arrangements.
The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday October 3, 1965 Topeka Angler Drowns in Lake. Waverly--(Special)--Fred Harold MILLS, 66, 715 Western, Topeka, died in a 15-acre private lake about three miels northeast of here while fishing Saturday. Dr. Henry Dick, Burlington, Coffey County Coroner, ruled the death apparently was caused by drowning. No one witnessed the incident, he said. Mills' body was recovered in about 10-12 feet of water near the center of the lake on the Charles K. Perry farm. The body was recovered about three hours after Mills was reported missing about 11 a.m Saturday. Officials said Mills went fishing with two companions from Topeka who went below the small dam at one end of the lake to fish before retuning to find Mills missing. Relatives of the Perrys said the aluminum rowboat Mills was using was found nearly full of water in the lake. They said no one saw Mills fall into the lake. The body was taken to Jones Funeral Home at Waverly and later brought to Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary. Born in Iowa. Fred H. Mills was born May 28, 1899, at Brighton, Iowa. He was the heating plant foreman at Forbes Air Force Base from 1942 to 1949 and was supervisor of the heating plant at Hunter Air Force Base at Savannah, Ga., from 1949 to 1960. He was retired. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Louise Mills, of the home; two stepsons, Robert BENNETT, Lokken Verk, Norway, and Bruce Bennett, Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mrs. Harvey BOWER, Muscatine, Iowa; and a brother, Myron Mills, Michigan. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wall-Diffendenfer Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 31, 1961 Alfred Magnuson. Osage City.--Alfred MAGNUSON, 77, a retired farmer, died Tuesday at his home here. Born Feb. 14, 1884, in Skene, Sweden, he came to the United States 58 years ago, settling in the Osage City community. He was a member of the Christian Church and the Grange. Survivors include the widow, Alma, of the home; a son, Herbert, of Osage City; a daughter, Mrs. Josephine HEDBERG of Rt. 1, Reading; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna LINDALH; and a brother, August NISSON, both of Sweden. Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Mission Convenant Church of Osage City, with burial in Osage City Cemetery. W.L. McElfresh Funeral Home of Osage City is in charge.

Survivors include a son, Roy Wells of Overbrook; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Walter BURKETT, of Burlingame. Mrs. Hestand was born at Hebron, Neb., Oct. 12, 1880, and lived in Topeka since 1903. She was employed at Pelletier's Department Store 30 years before retirement in 1948. Westerfield, 36, 2045 High, who was found dead on the seat of her car in a garage at home Wednesday. Death was due to natural causes, said Deputy Coroner Dr. Robert Braunsdorf. She was born in Topeka Feb. 18, 1925, and attended the Community Baptist Church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the DAV Auxiliary. Surviving are her widower, Raymond L. Westerfield, and a son, Ronald R. Westerfield, both of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther E. ELLISON, 2627 Buchanan; and two brothers, Lloyd A. ELLISON, 1723 Randolph, and Richard D. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 31, 1961 Joda Lyman Hill. Joda (Joe) Lyman HILL, 68, of Berryton, died in a Topeka hospital Wednesday following a long illness. He was born in Lizton, Ind., Nov. 30, 1892, and lived in the Topeka and Berryton communities since 1915. He was employed with the Topeka Transportation Co. as a mechanic until his retirement in 1960. Mr. Hill was a member of the Berryton EUB Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ethel Hill, at home; two sons, Jarvis Lyman Hill of Denver, and Thayne K. Hill of Oklahoma City, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and a brother, George Hill of Manhattan. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Penwell-Gabel Chapel with burial in Berryton Cemetery. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 31, 1961 James E. Lancaster. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel for James E. Lancaster, 89, 1817 W. 1st, who died in a Topeka hospital Wednesday after a short illness. He was born in Portsmouth, England, Oct. 7, 1871, and he and Mrs. Lancaster and their two children came to the United States in 1910. After living a few months in St. Marys, they moved to Topeka where he was employed with the Santa Fe Railway 32 years before his retirement in November 1943. Mr. Lancaster was a member of the First Baptist Church of Topeka. He and his wife, who died in June 1958, celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary March 21, 1958. Surviving are a son, Ernest Gordon Lancaster, 3122 Rochester Road; two daughters, Mrs. Chester P. STARBARD, of the home and Mrs. Harold G. BATES, 711 Lindenwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery. The family suggests any contributions in memory of Mr. Lancaster be made to the Educational Fund of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Ethel Cheney CLARK, 71, 1327 Lane, a resident of Topeka, 30 years, died in a Topeka hospital Wednesday after an extended illness. She was born June 24, 1890, at Fort Scott, Kans., where she was educated. She attended Virginia Women's College and was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Marine Corps League. Surviving are a widoer, Charles C. Clark, at home; a daughter, Mrs. James F. DOUGHERTY of Wichita; a son, Orlando E. CLARK, 1725 Fairlawn; and 10 grandchildren. Another son, Charles C. Clark, died September 1950. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Penwell-Gabel Chapel with interment in a cemetery at Fort Scott.

BOMAN, 68, 2216 Wilmington Court, senior designer for the State Highway Department, died in a Topeka hospital Tuesday. He served the department more than 30 years. Born at Chanute Jan 25, 1893, he was educated in public schools there and was graduated from Kansas University. He was a member of the Kansas Engineering Society, a registered professional engineer, a member of the Tau Beta Phi, an honorary engineering fraternity, a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist of Topeka and of the Mother Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, Mass. He served in World War I in France. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ruby Boman of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Rhoea LeFROIS of Wamego; a son, Lowell Boman of Pittsburg, Pa.; four grandchildren; a brother, Tom G.
