The Topeka Daily State Journal Monday October 7, 1918 His Death Is Confirmed. Lieutenant Larner of Oskaloosa Made Supreme Sacrifice, Aug. 12. Oskaloosa, Kan., Oct. 7.--A telegram from the adjutant general's office at Washington has confirmed the rumor that Lieut. Leland LARNER was killed in action August, 12, in the battle front near Chauteau Thierry. He had been made a second lieutentant and transferred from Company B, of the 139 infantry, to the 111 regiment of the Twenty-eighth division, which was shot to pieces in the battles near Chateau Thierry, with more than 800 casualities in the regiment. Lieutenant Larner served on the border in the Mexican trouble, was made a sergeant on his merits, went from Camp Doniphan to France in April, was promoted to a lieutenantcy while gallantly doing his part in one of the greatest battles of history. Memorial services will be held Sunday, October 13, at the Methodist church, Oskaloosa, of which he was a member.

The Topeka Daily State Journal Saturday October 5, 1918 Topeka Boy Killed. Albert Cooper, 193 Wabash Ave., Fatally Wounded Battle of Lens. Another gold star will be added to the Oakland service flag. This time the little star will represent Albert COOPER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cooper, 193 Wabash avenue, who has made the extreme sacrifice for his country. A telegram was recently received from the war department by his parents, stating that he died in a hospital in France September 3, after being wounded in the battle of Lens during the latter part of August. He was with the 134th Infantry, Company K. Private Cooper who was but 22 years of age at the time of his death, enlisted on July 4, 1917, at Omaha, Neb., and was sent to Camp Cody, N.M. He arrived in France in July if this year and had been in action but a short time.
