GAGE, died at her home, 409 VanBuren street, yesterday morning at 6:15 o'clock. She will be remembered as the donor of Gage's park, which has recenlty come into prominence. Mrs. GAGE was one of the pioneer women of Topeka. She was born in Alleghany county, New York, in April, 1834, and came to Topeka shortly before she married Guilford G. Gage in 1867. Mr. and Mrs. Gage went to live in the house in which she died yesterday. The house was built 46 years ago by Mr. Gage himself. Mr. Gage died May 19, 1909, from a paralytic stroke, leaving approximately a quarter million dollars. Out of his estate Mrs. Gage gave to Topeka the beautiful park west of the city. Mr. and Mrs. Gage were both well known through their philanthropic work and when Mr. Gage died his wife carried on the same work in her quiet and benevolent way. Among her recent gifts to chrity is an annex to the Stormont and to the Y.W.C.A. and Ingleside. Two business houses were also built by her at the corner of Fourth and Kansas Ave. All of Mrs. Gage's donations were made through a geniune personal benevolence and not for any want of show. She desires to be mourned only by those who will miss her from personal loss, which shows her dislike for display. Mrs. Gage leaves no children, or relatives except through her marriage with Mr. Gage. Two brothers of her husband are living, one Stephen L. Gage of Oakland, Cal., and the other Norris L. Gage of Ashtubula, Ohio. Word has been sent to both brothers-in-law and reply is awaited before making the funeral arrangements.
