The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday November 1, 1951 Mrs. C.E. Eldridge, Former Resident, Dies. Mrs. Charles E. ELDRIDGE, 91, long time resident of Topeka, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Everett G. YOUNG in Urbana, Ill. Mrs. Eldridge was born September 17, 1860 in Chatham, Ill., and moved to Topeka with her parents when she was a child. She was married to Mr. Eldridge November 3, 1886. They would have observed their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary Saturday. Mrs. Eldridge's husband was in charge of the Kansas Inspection Bureau for many years. Later, he entered the insurance business and maintained an office at 108 West Eighth until a few years ago. They moved to Urbana three years ago to make their home with their daughter. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church for approximately 75 years. Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Frank L. Eldridge, Glenview, Ill.; Mrs. Young of Urbana; Mrs. Fred J. PROUT, Toledo, Ohio, and Dr. Charles J. Eldridge, Kansas City, Mo.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The body will be returned to Topeak for burial.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday November 1, 1951 Mrs. Etta H. Owens. Mrs. Etta Helena OWENS, 73, of 2210 West West 10th, died Wednesday afteroon in a Topeka hospital. She was born March 13, 1878 in Osawatomie and made her home in Chanute for 45 years before moving to Topeka five years ago. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chanute, Auxillary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen of Chanute, and the Hulda Parker Chapter of the O.E.S. of Chanute. She is survived by her husband, W. H. OWENS, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Charley ALVIS, Topeak, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson's Mortuary at Chanute, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery at Chanute.

Robert LOGAN, 91, longtime resident of the Dover community, died Wednesday at the Methodist Home for the Aged. he was born June 4, 1860, in Darlington, Pa., and came to Kansas with his parents when he was 12 years old. He made his home near Dover from 1878 until he retired from the farm 31 years ago. He had been at the Methodist Home for two years. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. May FIRESTONE, Garvey, Calif.; two sons, Robert Logan, Eskridge, and Ray LOGAN, Burlingame; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dover Federated Church. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery.

She was born June 5, 1880, in Nortonville and spent most of her life in that community. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wayne GUILE, Topeka; Miss Grace GILLESPIE, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Vivian BUNDS, Compton, Calif.; two sons, Edward GILLESPIE, Burlingame, and Wallace GILLESPIE, Topeka; four granchildren and two brothers, Ira ROBINSON, Topeka, and Charles ROBINSON, Pomona, Calif.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday November 1, 1951 Margie S. Huyett. Miss Margie S. HUYETT, 77, Route 3, North Topeka, died Wednesday morning in a Topeka hospital. She was born October 2, 1874, near Richalnd and was a member of the Grantville Methodist Chruch. Several cousins survive. The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with burial in Grantville Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the mortuary until 2 p.m. Friday.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday November 1, 1951 Lifelong Resident G.H. Gurtler, Dies. George H. GURTLER, 85, retired Topeka building contractor and native Topekan, died Wednesday morning in a Topeka hospital. his home was at 120 Evelyn. Mr. Gurtler was born July 22, 1866, in Topeka and was a lifelong resident of this city. He was a member of the Topeka fire department for several years. Later he resigned to become a general building contractor. Among the buildings he erected are the Roosevelt Junior High School, Curtis Junior High School, Insurance Building at Eighth and VanBuren and the Mulvane Art Building at Washuburn University. After he had retired from the contracting business, he was assistant building inspector for several years. He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90., A.F.& A.M. He is survived by a son, Jim Gurtler, Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Beorgia TRULOVE, Topeka, a brother, Albert Gurtler, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Glena LEACH, Chicago, Ill., 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

His home was at Ash Grove, Mo. He was born August 22, 1875, in Jacksonville, Ohio. His father operated a harness shop in Topeka years ago. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie FRENCH of Ash Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Allen STONE of Maize; a son, Leander FRENCH, Kansas City; a brother, Joe FRENCH, Independence, Kan., and four grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Topeka Cemetery.

He had resided in Topeka for 40 years. Mr. TITTERINGTON was a retired mail carrier. he was a member of the the Seward Aveune Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and a deacon. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Estelle TITTERINGTON, of Topeka; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys PARKER, 724 Sumner; two grandchildren, Everett and Laura Ruth PARKER, 724 Sumner; a ister, Mrs. may ROSE of Lawrence and Charles TITTERINGTON, of Lawrence; two nieces and one nephew. She was born August 30, 1885, at Central City, Iowa, and moved to Topeka seven years ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, John T. CLEMMONS, of the home; two daughers, Miss Jennine CLEMMONS of the home, and Mrs. George A. WISE, Topeka; three sons, Merrel O. CLEMMONS, of Chanute; Gordon L. CLEMMONS of Burbank, Calif., and Ross T. CLEMMONS, Topeka; two brothers, Truman A. EDGARLY, Crowder, Okla., and Ross EDGARLY, Amarillo, Texas; and six grandchildren, including Mrs. Barbara BULKLEY of Topeka and Mrs. Norma Lee JOHNSON, Columbia, S. C., whom she reared. He was bron July 14, 1871, in Franklin County, near Ottawa and moved to Topeka when he was 18 years old. He was a maintenance man for the Salvation Army for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jennie THOMPSON, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mabel ROSEBERRY, Topekal; a son, Perry A> THOMPSON, Jr., Topeka; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery.

The Topeka Daily Capital Monday October 1, 1951 Mrs. Ella C. Price. Mrs. Ella C. PRICE, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Miss Ruth Mary PRICE, 1535 West Fifteenth. She was born October 26, 1861, in Belleville, Ill., and moved to Topeka two years ago to make her home with her daughter. She spent 20 years in South Africa, where her husband, the late C.J. PRICE, was a mining engineer. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ Scientist in Dallas, Texas, and of the Martha Washington CLub of Johannasburg, South Africa. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. A. L. CHURCHILL, Dallas, Texas, and Miss Price of Topeka; a son, Harlow R. PRICE, Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Amelia C. PRICE, and a brother, Fred W. CINDEL, both of Glendale, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The body will be taken to Dallas for burial. The family requests no flowers be sent.

She was born July 14, 1859, in Brand County, Mich., and moved to Topeka in 1916. Her husband, the late Edward B. SMITH, was associated with the law firm of Fisher, Snattinger and Smith. Mrs. SMITH formerly taught school in Great Bend and Nickerson and received her master's degree in English and Latin in 1897 at Kansas University. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, Daughters of the Armerican Revolution and Chapter D.F. of the P.E.O. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen B. FISHER of the home; four grandchildren, David H., and Jean T. FISHER, both of Topeka; Edward W. and Paul M. FISHER, both of Albuquerque, N.M., and 10 grandchildren.

She was born March 2, 1875, in Pomorn, Germany, and came to Kansas with her parents when she was 14 years old. They settled at Clearfield, Kan. She was married December 25, 1891, to George Edward WEIL, of Lawrence. They made their home in Douglas and Osage countiies until they moved to Topeka in 1912. Her husband died in 1931. She is survived by three sons, Ralph Edward WEIL, Denver, Colo.; Victor Irwin WEIL, Los Angeles, Calif.; and George Dewey WEIL, Topeka; three daughters, Mrs. Elisha Lewis CRYER, Belene, N.M.; Mrs. Forest MARSHALL, Terre Haute, Ind.; and Mrs. Robert H. JAMISON, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. H.S. STEVICK, Topeka; a brother, Henry A. POOCH, Los Angeles, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Clearfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Martha Ellen CUNNING, 88, resident of Kansas 84 years, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray BROOKS, northeast of Meriden. She was born December 9, 1862, in Wheeling, W.Va. and came to Kansas with her parents when she was four years old and settled in the Big Springs community. She had made her home in Meriden and vicinity since 1882. She was a member of the Evangelical-United Brethren Church at Meriden. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lillie COLLIER, Mrs. Paul DELLINGER and Mrs. BROOKS, all of Meriden; two sons, Roy and Ernest CUNNING, both of Meriden, 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meriden Evangelical-United Brethren Chruch with burial in Meriden Cemetery.

CURRENS, Goodland; two half brothers, Frank SISSON, Harveyville, and Willis SISSON, Geyser, Mont.; a half sister, Mrs. Howard BENNETT, Eskridge. She was the grandmother of Mrs. Cecil BOSTWICK and Mrs. Ray WINKLER both of Topeka.
The Topeka Daily Capital Monday October 1, 1951 Mrs. Katie Kelton. Mrs. Katie Kelton, former Topekan, died Sunday in Seattle, Wash., according to word received by Mrs. Mary E. GAINES, 1182 Buchanan. She was born in Harrisburg, Ky., and came to Topeka with her parents in 1878. She moved to Seattle in 1917. She returned to Topeka in 1931 and remained here two years before returning to Seattle. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church while in Topeka and a member of the AME Church in Seattle. She also was a member of the Mount Rainier OES chapter of Seattle, and the Daughters of Liberty of Topeka. She was an aunt of the late B.F. GAINES of Topeka. Surviving are s sister, Mrs. Elizabeth HIPSKER, Seattle; two brothers, James DAVIS, Tacoma, Wash., and Bob DAVIS, Denver, Colo., three nieces and three nephews. Funeral services and burial will be in Seattle.
The Topeka Daily Capital Monday October 1, 1951 Dr. Martha Madtson Dies, Former Beloit Physician. Dr. Martha M. MADSTON, 70, died Sunday night at her home, 1606 Boswell. She was born July 14, 1881, in Norway and came to the United States with her parents when she was three years old. She obtained her A.B. degree from Washburn University and her medical degree from the University of Michigan. She began to practice medicine in 1916 at Beloit. She had made her home in Topeka since 1947. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Beloit and the Neoma Eastern Star Chapter at Beloit. She is survived by two brothers, C.J. MADTSON, Albuquerque, N.M., and A.G. MADTSON, Ottawa; a niece and two nephews. Burial will be in Beloit.
