Mrs. Gertrude Ellis, 70, of 1020 Washington, died unexpectedly Thursday night from a heart attack while attending a song service at Brown's Chapel AME Church. Firemen responded to a first aid call and made an unsuccessful attempt to revive her. She was born January 8, 1882, in Topeka and was a life-long resident. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edna BUCKNER, and Mrs. Inez HILLARD, both of Topeka, and Mrs. Virgil WASHINTON, Kansas City, Kan.; and six grandchildren. She had been a member of Brown's Chapel more than 30 years.
The Topeka Daily Capital Friday February 1, 1952 James Hentzell. James Monroe HENTZELL, 81, of Columbia City, Ind., died Thursday in a Topeka hospital. He was a retired Santa Fe locomotive engineer. The body will be taken to Wichita for burial.
The Topeka Daily Capital Friday February 1, 1952 Mrs. Mary Happe. Mrs. Mary Agnes HAPPE, 47, of 901 Cambridge, died Thursday in a Topeka hospital. SHe was born April 15, 1905, in Topeka and was a lifelong resident of this city. She is survived by her husband, William C. Happe, of the home; a brother, Claude ASHTON, and a sister, Mrs. H.H. SERVICE, both of Topeka. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Assumption with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Rosaries Friday at Brennan's Funeral Home will include the Knights of Columbus No. 534 at 7:30 p.m. and the Parish at 8 p.m.
The Topeka Daily Capital Friday February 1, 1952 P. Harvey Vermillion. P. Harvey VERMILLION, 63, of 933 Golden, died in a Topeka hospital Thursday night. He was born in Platte County, Mo., on September 20, 1888. He had lived in Topeka 26 years. Mr. Vermillion was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 78 and the Scottish Rite at St. Joseph, Mo. He was a member of the Arab Temple and Eagle Lodge of Topeka. He had been employed by the National Lead Co. of St. Louis, Mo., and the Acme and Jones Paint Co. of Topeka. For the past eight years he had been a paint contractor. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Grace Vermillion, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Lillian SIMMONS, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Lulu CAVANAUGH, Chicago; Mrs. Lena Mae TAYLOR, and Mrs. Laura STERNS, both of Nashua, Mo.; three brothers, Burton and Noah Vermillion, both of Nashua, and Sidney Vermillion, Kansas City, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

He was born March 19, 1876, near Richland. He was a member of the Luthern Church. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wilma MYERS, Berthoud, Colo.; Mrs. Maysel MEGUMIDLE, Route 1, Topeka; and Mrs. Virginia BARNES, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Harley LUTZ, Berryton; four sisters, Mrs. Dora GANTZ, Durham, Okla.; Mrs. Bertha SIMMONS, El Dorado; Mrs. Minnie SUTTON, Lecompton, and Mrs. Ida KRAUSE, Overbrook; three brothers, William Lutz, Berryton, Edwin Lutz, Mound City, and Theodore Lutz, Durham, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the United Brethren Church at Richland with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Edward RICHARDS, former resident of the Hoyt community, died in San Diego, Calif., from injuries received in a motor car accident, according to word received by his sisters, Miss Lois and Miss Gertrude RICHARDS of 2105 North Topeka Avenue. He moved to California about 20 years ago. Besides his sisters, he is survived by five brothers, Ellis Richards, Contance, Minn.; Arthur Richards, Hoyt; Frank Richards, El Monte, Calif.; Harold Richards, Los Angeles Calif., and Alva L. Richards, Bettsville, Ohio. Burial will be in California.

The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday January 1, 1952 Car Hits Bridge at Quenemo, Kills One. Mrs. Victor MOLLETT, 20, of Quenemo, was killed and her husband, 21, seriously injured Monday night when their car struck the side of a bridge a mile west of Quenemo. Mrs. MOLLETT was dead when taken from the car. Her husband was taken to Stormont Hospital at Topeka. He suffered two fractured legs and a head injury. Osage County officers said the car skidded on loose gravel, struck the side of the bridge, and went into a ditch.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Allen of the home; a son, Alex JOHNSON, of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry DOTY; a brother, Earl Doty; and a sister, Mrs. Reginald BESEAU, all of Topeka. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys with burial in Wamego Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until the funeral hour.

He was born January 20, 1883, in Topeka and lived here for many years until three years ago, when he moved to Ottawa. he was retired several years ago from his position as division lineman in the Santa Fe Railroad. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leah Weaver, of Ottawa; two daughters, Mrs. Francis GOODIN, Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. harold LASWELL, Kansas City; a son, Harry, Jr., Dodge City; his mother, Mrs. Minnie C. Weaver, Topeka; and two brothers, Fred Weaver, Glendale, Calif., and George Weaver, San Bernadino, Calif.

After the death of her husband, R.H. TUCKER in 1920, she came to Topeka to live with her daughter, Mrs. Paul E. PALMER. She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Besides her daughter, she is survived by a son, R.R. TUCKER, Jr., Jackson, Miss. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary with burial in Fort Worth, Texas. GRAHAM, 61, president of the Graham Trucking Co., one of the pioneers of the trucking industry, died Sunday in Kansas City. He was well known in Topeka. He started the transfer business with a horse and wagon in Kansas City when he was 17 years old. His business grew until it spread thruout the Middlewest. A branch office has been maintained in Topeka for many years. His company is one of the oldest operating in Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle Graham; a son, Lyle O. Graham, Kansas City; a sister, Mrs. Edith MILLER, Columbus, Ohio and three brothers, Jesse M. Graham of Gahanna, Ohio; Rae Graham of Columbus, Ohio, and Herschel Graham of Sugar Grove, Ohio. The funeral will be Thursday in Kansas City.
The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday January 1, 1952 Mrs. E. W. Purdy. Mrs. E. W. PURDY, wife of the former pastor of the Third Christian Church in Topeka, died Sunday in St. Joseph, Mo., according to word received by Mr. and Mrs. George HOOVER, 226 Lake. The Rev. Mr. Purdy was pastor of the Third Christian chruch for about six years. He had been pastor of a church in St. Joseph, Mo. for 15 years. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph.
Thanks to your prayers and those of others, and my doing what my grandmother Reba would have done and turned in over to God to handle, I have, at this point, no cancer. The biospy was negative at this point. Surgery, for surgery's sake, is not recommended due to the location of the lung mass and the problems that can be created from such surgery. So, the plan now is to have a cat scan every four months for the next 1 year to 2 years. If there is any movement or growth then surgery immediately is to be done as it will mean that there is cancer present. Thank you one and all for your prayers. He was born September 25, 1875, near Topeka and had made his home on a farm known at Troudner Heights for 70 years. He had been a director of the Alliance Co-Operative Insurance Co. of Topeka many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn TROUDNER, of the home; and a daughter, Mrs. Samuel A. WRIGHT, of Galveston, Texas.

He was a member of the Grave Evangelical-United Brethren Chruch and for several years was a teacher of the Men's Bible Class of that church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie Deibler Oberhelman, of the home; three sons, Lorin E. Oberhelman, Independence, Mo.; Forrest V. Oberhelman, Kansas City, Mo., and Ferrol K. Oberhelman, Manhattan; a daughter, Mrs. Corrine DECKER, Hammonton, N.J.; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Henry MEYER, Portland, Ore.; and two brothers, L.A. Oberhelman, Waterville, Kan., and Dr. Harry Oberhelman, Oak Park, Ill.

SMART, 91, long time resident of Vassar, Kan., died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pearl UBER, 1323 Winfield. She made her home in the Vassar community more than 50 years and was a member of the Evangelical Church at Vassar. She was amrried August 28, 1884, to T. B. SMART, who died 15 yeras ago. She made her home with her daughter in Topeka two years. She is survived by three sons; John W. Smart, Paola; Henry Smart, Omaha, Neb., and Ernest Smart, Denison, Texas; two daughter, Mrs. Uber of Topeka, and Mrs. Minnie PATTERSON, Waverly; nine granchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Maud BRENNAN, Brenham, Texas, and a brother, Frank SILLIX, Topeka. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Vassar.
