    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday November 3, 1951 Mrs. Mary E. Hedge. Mrs. Mary Elizabeth HEDGE, 93, Whiting's oldest resident, died Thrusday at her home in Whiting after a long illness. She was born in Pennsylvania and was married to C.W. Hedge in December 1876, in Whiting. She was a member of the Methodist Church and for years was active in church and community affairs. She is survived by two sons, E.B. Hedge, Whiting, and C.W. Hedge, Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Todd, Atchison, and Miss Helen Hedge, Whiting; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. C.A. Lentz, Whiting; Mrs. W.E. Monroe, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Fred T. Brown, Council Grove. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at her home. Burial will be in Whiting Cemetery.

Born in Topeka in 1902, Mr. Johnson left the city 25 years ago to work for the Ford Motor Co. in Detroit. Before that he had worked for the Santa Fe shops. He returned to Topeka this September. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ruth Barber; two brothers, Paul J. Johnson, 828 Clay, and Hubert J. Johnson, 1225 Buchanan; three aunts, Mrs. Ada Daniels and Mrs. Mabel Divers, both of Topeka, and Della Roberts, St. Louis; three uncles, Gilbert Jackson, Topeka and James and Ed Johnson, both of Los Angeles; eight nephews and one niece.

She was born in Woodsville, Miss., and had made her home in Topeka since 1922. She was a member of the New Mount Zion Baptist Church and the Lone Star Missionary Society of the church. Her husband, Richard Clay, died April 23, 1942. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.R. Robinson and Mrs. Alice Cooper, both of Topeka; a son, E.W. Clay, Topeka; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Jones, Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Miss Queen Scott, Shelby, Miss., and a niece.

He operated the telephone exchange at Soldier for 23 years and later operated the exchanges at Onaga and Troy. he was at Troy five years before he retired from the business two years ago. He moved to Holton two months ago. He was member of the Troy Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Myrtle TAYLOR,of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Morford and Mrs. Robert Ward, both of Holton; two sons, Herbert J. Taylor, Topeka and Kenneth Taylor, Joliet, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Turner, Topeka; and two brothers, James W. and George C. Taylor, both of Holton. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mercer's Funeral Home, Holton, with burial in Holton Cemetery.

GRAY, 59, vice-president of the Columbia Title & Trust Co., died Friday morning in a Topeka hospital. Mr. Gray was born June 29, 1892, in Topeka. He attended the Topeka scholls and Washburn University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After completing his schooling, he entered the abstract business in Topeka. He was president of the Topeka Title & Bond Co. when his company was consolidated with the Columbian Title & Trust Co. He had served as vice-president of the Columbian Company since the merger. He was a past president of the Kansas Title Association, a charter member of the Topeka Lions Club and a member of the Elks Lodge and the Topeka Country Club. Mr. Gray is survived by his wife, Mrs. Antoineete C. Gray, of the home, 2042 Birchwood; a son, Clark A. Gray, Topeka; two grandsons, Paul Alan and Philip Stubbs Gray, Topeka; and a sister, Mrs. L.K. Thompson, Ligonier, Ind. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Friday November 2, 1951 George Mesigh, Sr., 77, Dies After Operation. George W. MESIGH, Sr., 77, veteran Topeka printer, died late Wednesday night in a Topeka hospital after a major operation. His home was at 1008 North Jackson. Mr. Mesigh was born September 11, 1874, at Ohio Station, Ill., and came to Kansas in 1881, with his parents, settling in Effingham. He started his career as a printer on the Effingham News. Later he worked at Atchison, Oklahoma City, Cripple Creek, Colo., and San Bernardino, Calif., before coming to Topeka in 1927. He was a lintotype operator on the State Journal until he retired in April, 1950. the Topeka Typographical Union presented him with a 50-year service pin in June, 1948. After his retirement, he occasionally filled in as a lintotype operator when needed. He was a member of the Atchison Masonic Lodge. Mr. Mesigh was married in 1898 to Lena Harrold, who died two years ago. He is survived by three sons, George W. Mesigh, Jr., Pomona, Kan., Dr. Lee. R. Mesigh, Fort Baynard, N.M., and J. Charles Mesigh, Topeka; two daughters, Mrs. Delia Benedict, LaMesa, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Salyer, Topeka; a brother, Frank Mesigh, Effingham; and a sister, Mrs. Frank Naaf, Beattie, Kan. The funeral will be a 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wall-Diffender Mortuary, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery. Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, A.F.& A.M., will conduct the burial service.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday October 4, 1951 V.L. King, Former State Official, Dies. Victor L. KING, 63, former state motor vehicle commissioner and a lifelong resident of Kansas, died Wednesday in a Topeka hospital after a long illness. Mr. King was born November 5, 1887, in Atchison and formerly was active in Republican politics in that county. He was appointed state motor vehicle commissioner by Governor Clyde M. Reed in 1929. He held this office for four years and afterward continued to make Topeka his permanent home. He was a candidate for state insurance commissioner in 1938 but lost in the primaries by a small margin. He was engaged in war work during World War II. In 1944, he joined the Pioneer Life Insurance Co. as the home office field representative. He continued his associations with the company until his death. Harry W. Colmery, president of the company, said King made an outstanding record. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret King, of the home, 3521 Yorkway; and two daughters, Mrs. O.L. Barnett, Manhattan, and Miss Victoria King, San Francisco. The funeral will be a 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict's Church in Atchison with burial in Atchison Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary.
