George BILLINGS, 67, of 109 North Topeka avenue, died in Stormont hospital Saturday. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Metty and Mrs. August Linder, Topeka, and six grandchildren. His body will lie in state at Brennan's parlors today from 3 to 9 .m. It then will be taken to Riverton, Ia., for burial.
The Topeka Daily Capital Friday November 25, 1927 Funeral Is Saturday. Mrs. Walter Ashton Smith, Well-Known Topeka Woman, Dead. Mrs. Walter Ashton SMITH, 50, died early yesterday morning at the family residence, 915 Harrison. Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from the First Presbyterian church. Dr. Stephen S. Estey and Bishop James Wise, officiating. The body will lie in state at Penwell's chapel from 2 until 6 o'clock Friday afternoon. Active pallbearers will be Henry C. Kebbey, Frank C. Gibbs, E.J. Shakeshaft, Howard Johnston, Roy L. Bone and Eugene E. Sallee. Honorary pallbearers will be Justice William A. Johnston, John C. Emahizer, Frank Smith, J.W.F. Hughes, Wm. A. Macferran and E.H. Crosley. Mrs. Smith whose maiden name was Julia Etta McGree, was born in Illinois, January 31, 1868. The following year the family moved to Greenwood county, Kan. May 10, 1903, she married Walter Ashton Smith at Hildreth, Neb., taking up immediate residence at Oberlin, Kan., where they resided until the spring of 1911. With the exception of the last two years in Florida, the family has resided almost continually at 333 Greenwood avenue, Topeka. There survive her besides her husband; a son, Marion Ashton Smith, at the University of Illinois, Urbana; Mrs. Walter H. Tatge, Pittsburg, Kan.; Mrs. Emmett Graham, Abilene, Kan. A son, Walter McGrew, died in infancy.

MOSS, 68, died at his home, 1184 Wayne street, yesterday afternoon. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Miss Kitty Moss, Valley Center, N. Dak., and Mrs. Helen Kerle, Topeka; and two sons, Charles H. Moss, Chanute and Joseph W. Moss, Independence, Kan. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday November 24, 1927 Wm. M. Jeffries Dead. Pioneer Helped Erect State House Dome and Santa Fe Shops. William M. JEFFRIES, 74, died last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milton Shutt, 1280 Lane. Mr. Jeffries is an old resident of Topeka, coming here in 1895. He was born in Illinois on June 9, 1853 and went to Gorham, Kan., in 1884. He was a contractor by trade and helped to erect the Santa Fe shops, the dome of the state house, and many other buildings of Topeka. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, The I.O.O.F. and the Rebekah lodge. He was a member of the United Brethren Chruch. Surviving him are his daughter, Mrs. Shutt, one sister, Mrs. Mark Stroller, Nevado, Mo., and nine grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Wood, 76, of 419 Western Aveune, who died Friday in a local hospital, will be Monday morning at 10 o'clock at Penwell's Funeral Home, with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the time of service. Mrs. Wood was born June 5, 1863, in Mt.Pleasant, Iowa, came to Kansas in 1894, settling at Arkansas City. Later she moved to Clay Center, then came to Topeka and had been a resident here for the past twenty-two years. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Ina Wood, of the home; three sons, Kenneth R. Wood, also of the home; L.H. Wood, Salilna and W.L. Wood, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two brothers, N.E. Keller, Topeka, and V.D. Keller, Coffeyville; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Strawn, Topeka; Mrs. Lettie Beeler, Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Nora Von Stine, Kent, Iowa; one step-brother, Frank Barker, Pittsburg; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was born August 22, 1851, in Albany, N.Y., moved to Axtell, Kan., in 1884, and had been a resident of Topeka for the past twenty-one years. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Sapp is survived by husband, E.W. Sapp, of the home; one son, Charles T. Sapp, Wichita; one sister, Mrs. Mary Stackhouse, Tulsa, Okla.; four brothers, John Troup, Deray, Fla.; David Troup, Berkeley, Calif.; Thomas Troup, Concordia, and Charles Troup, Tulsa, Okla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with interment in Fairlawn addition to Mt. Hope Cemetery.
The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday June 10, 1939 A.S. Wolverton, Well Known Topekan, Dead. A.S. WOLVERTON, 65, well-known Topekan, died suddenly at his home, 301 West Thirteenth Street, last night. Mr. Wolverton was in the yard at his home. He suffered a stroke and was taken to the porch. He died shortly afterward. Mr. Wolverton was born December 4, 1873, near Holton, and had been a resident of Kansas all his life. He was a former circulation manager of The Topeka Daily Capital for a number of years. For the past fourteen years he has been manager of the safety deposit department of the Central National Bank. He was a Spanish War Veteran and a thirty-second degree Mason. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kate Wolverton of the home; one stepson, Joe D. Papin, Topeka, and one sister, Mrs. Arthur Christian, Holton. The body was taken to Penwell's Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

He was born October 20, 1848, in Ohio, and was a member of the Rossville Christian Church. Surviving him are one daughter, Della Startup, of the home; three sons, Bennet, Sunny Side, Wash.; Walter and Guy Startup of the home; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. The body was brought to Conwell's Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements.

She is survived by her husband, Lloyd Gordon; one son, Donald Gordon of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wire, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Mauer, New Mexico, and Miss Betty Wire, Topeka. He was born April 21, 1861, in Illinois, and had been a resident of Topeka for forty years. Haines was formerly a caretaker at Topeka Cemetery. He is survived by two stepchildren, Miss Lola Talty, Kansas City, Mo., and Frank Talty of Topeka; one brother, George Haines, of Lecompton; one sister, Mrs. Josie Wycoff, Winfield, and two grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock at Mt. Auburn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Penwell's Funeral Home until 10 o'clock Friday morning.

Besides her husband, she survived by one son, Marston Spencer, Pampa, Texas; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Logan of Lubback, Texas, and one sister and five brothers. Funeral services and burial will be in Texas.

He was born September 18, 1861, in Mitchell, Ind., and had been a resident of Topeka for more than fifty years. He was a member of Brown's Chapel, A.M.E. Church. Surviving are his son, Curtis COWHERD of the home and a sister, Mrs. Mary Crane of Mitchell, Ind. The body is lying in state at Bowser's Mortuary pending funeral arrangements.

She was born December 1, 1866, near Winchester and had lived in Topeka since 1910. She is survived by two sosn, W.H. and Harry V. Orr, both of Topeka; a daughter, Mrmrs. M.W. Boyd, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. John Zachariah, Oskaloosa; Mrs. Ed Lynn, Zarah, and Mrs. R.H. Hayes, Bonner Springs; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary with burial in Topeka Cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. mary Moyer, Topeka; two sons, Milford Grindol, Route 3, North Topeka, and Ralph Grindol, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Todd, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Jesse Williams, East St. Louis, Ill.;and Noek Williams, Wardin, Ill.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary with burial in Grantville Cemetery.
The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 25, 1968 Mary Ann Murray. Mary Ann MURRAY, infant daughter of T/Sgt and Mrs. Thomas Murray, 1017 Kansas Avenue, died Monday in a Topeka hospital. Her father has been in the Marine Corps 14 years and has been stationed at Toeka one and one-half years. Besides her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Thomas M. Murray, 12, James P. Murray, 7, and Timothy A. Murray, 1, and a sister, Gail Elizabeth Murray, 6, all of the home. The Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
