The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday April 2, 1961 Walter S. McKay. Walter S. McKAY, 77, of Wichita, died there Saturday after a four-months illness. He was born, Nov. 24, 1883, in Independence, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wichita. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Flossie McKay, at home; two sons, Clarence McKay, 625 MacVicar and kenneth McKay of Wichita; a duagher, Mrs. Dorothy Schwartz of Russell; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was a teacher 20 years in Montgomery County and taught in high school at Russell. He worked 12 years for the Boeing Airplane Co. of Wichita before retirement. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church of Wichita with burial in the Old Mission Cemetery at Wichita. The DeVorss-Gard Funeral Home of Wichita is in charge.
The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday April 2, 1961 Marvin D. Yingling. Marvin D. YINGLING, 42, of 605 W. Broad, died in a Topeka hospital Saturday. He was born Oct. 19, 1918 at Hiawatha, and lived in Topeka most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, ws employed by the Continental Show Co. and a member of the Assemble of God Chruch. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice M. and a daughter, Judy Ann Yingling, both at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Yingling, 4009 N. Kansas; and a brother, Dorwin Yingling, 3926 N. Kansas. Davidson-Eslinger-Duff Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Mrs. Inez HOWARD, 70, of Wamego, an aunt of Vice-President Lyndon Johnson, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frances Winter of Wamego. Mrs. Howard was born Aug. 5, 1890, at Blooming Grove, Tex., and was a resident of Wamego seven months. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Edgar Johnson of Blooming Grove, mother of the vice-president, and Mrs. Rosa Wilson of Lawton, Okla.; and a brother, Ernest Huff of Bloomington. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Stewart Memorial Chapel in Wamego with graveside services at 1:30 p.m. in Lawton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel for John Melvin (Jim) WILSON, 67, of 629 Garfield, who died here in a hospital Saturday. Born July 2, 1893 at Grantville, he lived in Topeka 17 years. Mr. Wilson was a mechanic 46 years and retired last spring from Ike's Motor Service. He was a member of the Lowman Memorial Methodist Church, a veteran of World War I, the National Rifle Association, Capital City Rifle Club and an instructor of a junior rifle team. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertha G. Wilson at home; a son, Glenn M. Wilson, 1713 W. 24th; two daughters, Mrs. Grace Walker, 1906 E. 26th, and Mrs. Mary Beth Chop of Clearwater, Fla.; a sister, Miss Nina Wilson, Route 3; two brothers, Vernon Wilson of Larog, Fla., and Harry Wilson, Route 3; and four grandchildren. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 15, 1883. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Sipes, 1901 N. Topeka and Mrs. Jean Filkins, 3312 Burlingame Road; two sons, Clifford Spaulding, 2312 W. 9th and C.W. Spaulding, 629 Sumner; a brother, W.A. Spaulding of Warsaw, Mo.; 12 granchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was born Feb. 8, 1904, at Clarksdale, mo., was a resident of Topeka three years and a member of the Baptist Church of Clarksdale. Surviving are her widower, F.T. SEIDEL, 58, of 708 Topeka, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Penwell-Gabel Chapel with burial in the Glen Elder Cemetery at 4 p.m. She died Friday in a Topeka hospital after a short illness. Born Nov. 28, 1902, at Glen Elder, she lived in Salina before moving to Topeka in 1939. She was employed in the State Motor Vehicle Department until February 1961. She was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are her widower, John A. Seidel at home; and two sisters, Mrs. Dora L. Walker of Kansas City, Kan., and Mrs. Bessie Rollins of Glen Elder.
The Topeka Daily Capital Sunday April 2, 1961 Gun Acciden Claims Life of Schoolboy. A 14-year-old Topeka junior high school student was fatally wounded Saturday night when a .22 caliber rifle discharged at a friend's home. Harold COLLINS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis N. COLLINS, 211 W. 21st, died at Stormont-Vail Hospital two hours after he was shot at about 6:30 p.m. Collins, was with two other youths--all members of the ninth grade at Cane Junior High--at the home of Buck Atkisson, 1304 Polk, when the gun discharged. Mrs. Atkisson said the boys had just come home a few mintues before her son, John, came downstairs from the bedroom and said a gun he was holding accidently discharged. John, 15, told his mother that he was showing his rifle, used for hunting, to Collines, detectives reported. Collins was shot in the abdomen, police said. Don Hogan, 2609 Central Park, was with the two boys. Mrs. Atkisson said the three planned to spend the night at Collins' home. Friday night they stayed at the Atkisson home and the night before at Hogan's home.

He was born Feb. 14 1892 at Fristoe, was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Masonic Lodge at Denver, Colo. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Jane York of Kansas City; a brother, Shelton P. Hodges of Fristoe; and a sister, Miss Maggie Hodges of Redlands, Calif. Services and burial will be in Warsaw, Mo., with the Reser Funeral Home there in charge. Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.

She was born Oct. 30, 1873, in Wamego and lived near the community all her life. Surviving are three sons, Albert Noll at home, Guy Noll of Louisville, and Linus A. Noll of Hutchinson, and a daughter, Mrs. Julia Fields of Prescott, Ariz. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Stewart Memorial Chapel in Wamego. Requiem high mass will be sung at 9 a.m. Monday at Wamego's St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born Sept. 24, 1888, in Riley County, he was employed by a construction company many years. He was a member of the Walsburg Lutheran Church and the Eagles Lodge, at Manhattan. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Eva Nyberg at home; a son, Axtel J. Nyberg, 205 Taylor; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Smith of Manhattan; two stepsons, Kenneth Martin of Long Beach, Calif., and Lyman Martin of Manhattan; and two sisters, Mrs. Roy Wilson and Mrs. John Smith, both of Manhattan. The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday April 1, 1961 Bell Telephone Official Dies; Rites Pending. Services will be announced for William J. BRANDENBURG, 51, business office supervisor of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., who died at home Friday. He suffered a heart attack. Mr. Brandenburg was the husband of Mrs. Catharine Brandenburg, new director of radio station WREN, and the son-in-law of Mrs. Ada Montgomery, women's editor of the Daily Capital. He had returned a week ago from Florida following the death of his mother March 21. Born May 26, 1909, in Topeka, he moved to Massachusetts with his family, attended Wesleyan University of Middletown, Conn., and moved to Topeka in 1929 where he started wrok for the commerical department of Southwestern Bell. He was transferred to Kansas City in 1930 and worked various assignments there and in Kansas City, Kan., until he returned here in 1951. He attended Grace Cathedral. Survivors in addition to his widow, are a son, Willliam J. Brandenburg Jr., at home, 724 Merriam Ct.; and his father, Dr. J.S. Brandenburg of Eustis, Fla., a retired educator. Mr. Brandenburg was a grandson of a former chief justice of Supreme Court of Kansas, William A. Johnston. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born August 18, 1892, in Topeka and resided here his entire life. He was a member of the American War Dads. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Shrene, Topeka; two sons, Jess Skaggs, Papillion, Neb.; and James Skaggs of the U.S. Navy; his mother, Mrs. Cynthia Debar, Topeka; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Martin, Topeka and Mrs. Esther Hart, Barstow, Calif.; a niece, Mrs. Raymond Masey, Topeka, and 10 grandchildren. A private funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Bethel Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent but that contributions be sent to the Shawnee Cancer Society.

The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday October 6, 1951 Mrs. Catherine Coffey. Mrs. Catherine COFFEY, long-time resident of Jefferson County, died Wednesday in a hospital in Ontario, Calif. She had gone to California to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Walter Sullivan. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption and the Altar society. She is survived by two other daughters, Mrs. Grace Winery, Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. Gertrude Schlegal, Topeka; a son, Thomas Coffey, California, three sisters and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at the Catholic Church in Ontario, Calif. Burial will be in Ontario.
The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday October 6, 1951 William James. William JAMES, 82, retired farmer and long-time resident of the Burlingame community, died Thursday near Wichita. He was born July 3, 1869, in Ontario, Canada, and spent most of his life on a farm seven miles north of Burlingame. He is survived by two sisters, Miss Martha James and Mrs. Sarah Siders, both of Burlingame. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carey's Funeral Home at Burlingame with burial in Burlingame Cemetery.
The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday October 6, 1951 Former Topekan Killed in Fall. A.E. "Tex" BASS, 51, former Topeka used car dealer, was killed Thursday in a fall from an electric power pole while installing wiring to a house in Caney. Mr. Bass was a lineman for the Kansas Power & Light Co. at one time but an injury forced him to leave this trade. He operated the Bass Used Car establishment in Topeka several years before World War II. He went into defense work as an electrician during the war. He helped to install the wiring for the dam at Fall River, Kan. He had been in the electrical business in Caney since the completion of the dam. He is survived by a son, Clyde Kile, of the Walters Air Force Base in Texas; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Clemans, Erie; and three brothers, John Bass of Erie; Roy Bass of Walnut and C.L. Bass, Chelsea, Okla. The funeral will be at 10 a.m Saturday at Caney.
