    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Friday August 27, 1910 Louis Heck Dies Of Heart Failure. Prof. Louis HECK, a well known musician of Topeka, died suddenly of heart failure early this morning. He was 73 years old and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clara GRILEY of California and Mrs. Kate GRILEY of Topeka, and one son, Frank HECK of California. Prof. Heck has lived in Topeka practically all his life and was connected with several musical organizations years ago. He directed a city band here about 30 years ago and was a long time director of the Arion Singing society. Previous to his settling in Topeka he was musical director in the original Sells Brothers circu. Of late years he has confined himself to home instruction on the violin. Prof. Heck died at the old Bethesda Hospital wehre he and his son-in-law John Griley had moved temporarily two days ago while Mr. Heck was having the home at 828 Quincy street remodeled for his daughter. No funeral arrangements have been made yet. These will depend on the arrival of the son and daughter from California.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 25, 1910 Simple Funeral For Jonathan Thomas. Modest And Brief, Characteristic of the Man. Dr. S.S. Estey in Charge of Services--House Almost Filled With Floral Offerings. The funeral services of Jonathan THOMAS were held yesterday at his late residence, 515 Harrison street, at 4 o'clock. The service was simple and brief, being charactertistic of Mr. Thomas' life, which was modest and reserved. All his charities and educational donations were given without the slightest pretense of show. Dr. S.S. Estey, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, who was in charge of the service, read passages from Psalms and the Fourteenth chapter of John. The service was closed by a simple prayer consoling the bereaved relatives and friends. The body was laid to rest in the family vault at the Topeka cemetery. Only the immediate family was present at the burial. The attendance at the funeral showed that the deceased had many friends in the city. The home yesterday afternoon was filled to overflowing with sympathetic friends. From 9 to 10:30 o'clock yesterday morning a procession of friends passed through the Thomas home to view the body, which lay in state. A profusion of beautiful flowers filled the room. Roses, lillies and carnations made into wreaths and other decorations filled the entire house. Every known design of the florist's art was among the display. The chimes at Washburn college, which were donated by Mr. Thomas to the school, were silence yesterday afternoon in memory of the donor and between the hours of 5 and 6 o'clock the bells tolled at minute intervals. The honorary pallbearers at the funeral were: Frank Knight Sanders, Dr. L.Y. Grubbs, J.D. Hathaway, Judge T.F. Garver, George M. Noble, T.B. Sweet, F.M. Spencer and Judge J.G. Slonecker. The active pallbearers were: W.S. Bergundthal, J.B. Whelan, John Steele, Edgar May, George Erickson, D.L. Blair, H.G. Buechner and Paul Huycke.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday August 25, 1910 Word has been received in Topeka of the death of A.D. CRAIG at Colorado Srpings, Monday. He was formerly a Topeka man, being in the grocery business here with C.C. WHITNEY. in 1871 he was city treasurer. Shortly afterwards he removed to Colorado Springs, where he lived up to the time of his death. The body will be brought to Topeka and the funeral will be held from the Masonic temple Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock. All old settlers of Topeka are invited to attend the funeral.

The funeral of Earl Lee CALKINS of Harveyville, who died at the age of 64 Wednesday in a Topeka hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Harveyville Methodist Church with burial in Burlingame Cemetery. She was born in Shawnee County and made her home in the county her entire life. She was widow of Elmer E. Witter and most of their married life was spent on a farm near Kiro. She was a member of the Rossville Methodist Church. Mrs. Witter is survived by a sister, Mrs. Charles Lynn of Topeka; a brother, Fred Pelle, San Bernardino, Calif.; two nieces, Mrs. Clinton Stalker and Mrs. Herbert Bott, both of Topeka; and three nephews, Glen Van Orsdol, Charles Lynn, Jr., and Frank Seltzer, all of Topeka. Seely HERRICK, 76, father of Arthur Herrick, state alcoholic beverage control director, died Thursday in Kansas City after an illness of several weeks. He was born in New Jersey and made his home in Fort Scott and Topeka before moving to Kansas City in 1897. He retired 11 years ago after serving as a Santa Fe locomotive engineer 46 years. Besides his son, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. howard L. Settle, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Charles H. Herrick, Wichita, and Thomas E. Herrick, Oklahoma City, Okla., four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Abke, died Thursday morning at her home, 1617 Central Park. Her death occurred two days after that of her husband. Mrs. Abke was born in 1865 in Leavenworth and had lived in Topeka 46 years. She and her husband had been married 58 years. She is survived by a son, Frank Abke, Indianapolis, Ind., and a sister, Miss Mollie Wissler, Leavenworth. Double funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Mount Muncie Cemetery at Leavenworth.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday April 2, 1936 Jennings. Mrs. Jack Lilly of Topeka has received word of the death of her sister, Mrs. Marjorie JENNINGS, wife of the late Ray Jennings. She died Wednesday morning in Junction City, Kan. She had been ill for some time.
