The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 10, 1916 Word was received in Topeka yesterday of the death Tuesday of P.L. LOTT at Monrovia, Cal. He was the father of Mrs. E.W. RANKIN, of Topeka. Mrs. RANKIN was on the way to California when the news of Mr. LOTT's death was received in Topeka.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 10th, 1916 Mrs. Emma K. ENSMINGER, 68 years old, died yesterday morning at her home, 829 Monroe street. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock from Penwell's chapel. The body will be taken to Meriden, Kan., Friday morning for burial.

The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 7, 1952 Martin J.O'Connell. Martin J. O'CONNELL, 68, who lived near Wamego, died Tuesday night in a Manhattan hospital. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude O'Connell; two daughters, Misses Katherine Rose and Mary Ellea O'Connell, all of the home; two sisters, Mrs. W.W. HUEY, St. Marys, Mrs. H. J. VERNON, Denver, Colo., and a brother, Dan O'Connell, of Wamego. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Church in Wamego. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the O'Connell home. Burial will be in Wamego Catholic Cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Joe Mahkuk, Mayetta, John and Charles Mahkuk, both of Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Lucille DEIG, Topeka, and a brother John WABNUM, Mayetta. The funeral will be held Friday at her home west of Mayetta with burial in her family lot.

She is survived by her husband, George Jones; a son, Childes Jones and two grandchildren, all of Fort Bragg; six sisters, Mrs. HEFNER, Topeka; Mrs. Katie BEILER, Irving,Kan.; Mrs. Anna BLOOM, South Gate, Calif.; Mrs. Frances SNYDER, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Martha WANHAHA, Fort Bragg; and Mrs. Marcella ROGERS, Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, John G. KAMLOWSKY, Wheeling, W.Va.; and Albert KAMLOWSKY, Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services and burial were at Ft. Bragg.

He was born on a farm near Havensville and made his home on a farm in that community until he moved to Holton a few years ago. He was a member of the Coal Creek Catholic Church near Havensville. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary WOLFE, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Miss Kathryn SHIELDS, Miami Beach, Fla.; and three brothers, William and Edward SHIELDS, both of Havensville, and George SHIELDS, St. Joseph, Mo. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Coal Creek Chruch with burial in Coal Creek Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday at Mercer's Funeral Home in Holton.

Mrs. Rogers was born May 28, 1885, near Dover and made her home in Dover and Topeka until she moved to Tucson in 1950 for her health. She was a member of the Dover Federated Church. Her former Topeka home was at 543 Wabash. She is survived by her husband, Abe L. Rogers, Tucson; and a son, Robert N. Rogers, Rockford, Ill. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary with burial in Dover Cemetery.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 7, 1952 Fall Down Stairs Kills Mrs. Ellen Simmons, 58. Mrs. Ellen Belle SIMMONS, 58, of 501 Emmett, died Wednesday morning from injuries received in a fall down a flight of stairs at the home of Mrs. W.J. BRYDEN, 434 Topeka, where she was employed. Her neck was broken, according to Dr. Donald Macrae, county coroner. Mrs. Simmons was born September 19, 1893 in tecumseh and was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church. Her husband, the late George H. Simmons, died in April 1947. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Edna Simmons and Miss Lois Simmons, both of Topeka; a son, George R. Simmons, Lecompton; a sister, Mrs. Elsie McHENRY, Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Wilbur, Orville and Lou FRAKES,all of Tecumseh; and Howard FRAKES, Topeka, and three grandchildren.
The Topeka Daily Capital February 7, 1952 Mrs. W.M. CROSBY, Dies at Age of 83. Mrs. Flora Mayo CROSBY, 83, former president of the Warren M. Crosby Dry Goods Co., died Wednesday morning in her home, 1555 Stratford. Mrs. Crosby was born July 30, 1868, in Brimfield, Ill., and had been a resident of Topeka more than 60 years. Her husband, the late Warren M. Crosby, owned and operated one of the city's leading dry goods stores on the present site of the Montgomery-Ward store. After his death, Mrs. Crosby was head of the store until it was liquidated in 1932. Her son, Warren M. Crosby, Jr., afterward opened a store at 611 Kansas Aveune. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was a generous contributor to various civic and charitable enterprises in Topeka. She took an active interest in the plans for building the Hotel Jayhawk and the Grand Theater. She was member of the Chaldean Club and the Daughters of Founders and Patriarchs of America. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Crosby, Jr., Topeka; two sons, Thomas M. and Warren M. Crosby, Jr., both of Topeka, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Congreagational Church with burial in Topeka Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 7, 1952 Topeka Mother, 28, Killed in Wreck. A 28-year old Topeka mother of three children was killed shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday when her car and a truck collided at Third and Monroe. Mrs. Alma Jean BARRACLOUGH, 210 Monroe, was pronounced dead on arrival at Stormont Hospital. She was driving north on Monroe after taking the children to school when her car collided with a Dowling Electric Company truck driven by George Gurtler, 305 Lime. Gurtler was traveling west on Third. Mrs. Barraclough was thrown from the car and pinned beneath it. Altho she was not under its wheels, bystanders said she could not get out. A group of men turned the car over to free her. No charges were filed against Gurtler by police. Mrs. Barraclough was born January 27, 1924, in Topeka and was a graduate of Hayden High School. She is survived by her husband, Harry D. Barraclough, of the home; two daughters, Berry Alene, 8, and Elizabeth Sue Barralclough, 2, of the home; a son, William Brett Barraclough, of the home; a sister, Mrs. Shirley Sue STINSON, Cincinnati, Ohio, and a brother, Robert Dean Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
The Topeka Daily Capital Thursday February 7, 1952 Ozawkie Man Kills Self in Store. Lawrence.--Roy E. STEFFEY, 64, a retired Ozawkie farmer, entered Green Brothers Hardware Store here Wednesday afternoon, bought a rifle, and then shot and killed himself. A store employee, C.E. WILCOX, told police that after Steffey bought the gun and a box of .22 cartridges, he asked how to load it and Wilcox showed him. He said another customer cautioned Steffey about carrying a loaded gun. Steffey then removed the shell and walked to the front of the store. No Witnesses. A few moments later, employees and customers in the rear of the store heard Steffey's body fall to the floor. No one was near him and no one saw it happen. Jesse ROUTH, a clerk in the store, said Steffey had been in the store earlier in the afternoon looking at pistols but didn't buy one. Mrs. Hallie Steffey, wife of the victim said she and her husband arrived in Lawrence at about 1 p.m. and left their car at a garage for repairs. He said he would wait in the car while she went uptown to shop. Hand Been In Hospital. Mrs. Steffey said her husband had been released from Vail Hospital in Topeka Monday. Examinations there had revealed nothing serious, but he had been despondent over his health, she said. Steffey is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Steffey, Ozawkie; three daughters, Mrs. Lex BRUNTON, Perry, Mrs. Delvis BRADSHAW, Belleville, and Miss Verla Lee Steffey, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Earl BARKER, Topeka, anfour brothers, Ira Steffey, Topeka, Floyd and Kenneth Steffey, Ozawkie, and Raymond Steffey, Oskaloosa. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the United Brethren Church at Ozawkie with burial in Ozawkie Cemetery.

Mr. Scudder was a retired carpenter for the Santa Fe Railroad. He is survived by four sons, Gale and George Scudder, both of Ottawa; John Scudder, Chicago, Ill.; and Lloyd Scudder, Danna, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence KLINE, Dwight, Ill.; and Mrs. Chris BURKART, Streeter, Ill. Burial will be in River View Cemetery, Streeter, Ill.

She was born in Topeka and attended schools here. She made her home in Denver, Colo.; before moving to Berkeley, Calif. She is survived by a son, Orval Mitchell of Berkeley; three sisters, Mrs. Emma WATSON and Mrs. Gertrude LOGAN, both of Topeka, and Mrs. Theressa JOHNSON, St. Paul, Minn.; and three brothers, Clarence CHERRY, Richmond, Calif.; Arthur Cherry, Oakland, Calif.; and David Cherry, St. Paul, Minn. She was a niece of Mrs. Theresa ARN and Mrs. Nannie WHITE both of Topeka. The body will be brought to Topeka for burial.

She was born April 20, 1881, near Effingham, and lived in the Cold Creek neighborhood, north of Valley Falls, until 1927, when the family moved to Larkinsburg. For the past two years she and her son, Frederick, have lived in Valley Falls. Survivors include her son, of the home; a sister, Mrs. J.F. BLANKENSHIP of Valley Falls; two brothers, James HILDMAN of Valley Falls and Michael HILDMAN, of 3926 Rochester Road. Burial will be in Immaculate Cemetery, Valley Falls.
