    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday January 28, 1920 J.B. Thomas Dies. Pioneer Resident, Father of Several Local Business Men. J.B. THOMAS, known to Topeka old settlers as "Buck" Thomas, is dead at Los Angeles, Cal., according to word received in Topeka yesterday by Alonza S. Thomas. He was a son of the late Uncle Chet Thomas, Jr., former treasurer and former sheriff of Shawnee county, of the late Adolphas S. Thomas of Silver Lake; Alonza S. Thomas, of the Santa Fe Watch Co.; Frank S. Thomas and Mrs. T. J. HANKLA, both of Topeka; Mrs. Charles N. RIX, of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Olive A. ROBINSON of Chicago. Mr. Thomas was born in Troy, Pa., May 25, 1845, and came to Kansas in 1858. In 1878 he married Miss Kitty RIX, a sister of Charles N. Rix, for many years a banker in Topeka, but for the last thirty-five years president of the First National bank of Hot Springs, Ark. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, now residents of Los Angles. His son Chester died ten years ago while on a visit in Topeka. Mr. Thomas was for many years a member of the firm of Lindsey and Thomas, who in an early day were extensive horse buyers and liverymen. He was in the Civil war, going fomr this county and enlisting at the age of 16. He went to California thirty-five years ago and until he retired was in the employ of the Southern California railroad. He will be buried from his home, 1024 South Union Ave., Los Angeles, Cal.
