The Topeka Daily Capital Saturday March 24, 1951 Sergeant Hurt as Bullet Explodes in Fire. M/Sgt. Charles J. HASTINGS was in Forbes Air Force Base hospital Friday night suffering from a bullet wound in his shoulder. He was buring trash at his home in Burlingame when a .22 caliber bullet, evidently in the fire, exploded and struck him in the shoulder. He was taken to Winter Veterans Hospital where it was removed and he was returned to the Air Base. His condition was reported as good by the WVA staff doctors.

The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday April 30, 1947 P.C. Thomas. P.C. THOMAS, 79, 1200 Washington, died Monday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn REAMS, of Kansas City, Kan. Mr. Thomas was born in Lexington, Ky., and had made his home in Topeka for 48 years. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, and besides the daughter, leaves a son, Maceo Thomas of Topeka and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Anticoch Baptist Church Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J.E. Neelon officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Gaines and Son Funeral Home until the hour of the service.

RICHARDSON of 1021 Jefferson. Mrs. Miner was born in Towanda, Ill., and came to Topeka with her parents in 1869, received her education in the Topeka schools and has lived here continously. She leaves besides her daughter, a cousin, Mrs. Mabel ROSEN, of Topeka. Private funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with burial in Topeka Cemetery. The family requests no flowers.

POWELL, 71, 2500 Illinois, died Tuesday afternoon enroute to a hospital following his collapse while at work at Eighteenth and Collins. Mr. Powell was born in Philadelphia, Ill., May 9, 1875, and had made his home in Topeka for the past 35 years. He was a member of Topeka Lodge No. 17, AF&AM. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. May Powell of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Nelson SMITH and Mrs. E.W. BOHNSACK and two sons, Steve and Burt Powell, all of Topeka; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel, Thursday afternoon at 3:30 and burial will take place in Topeka Cemetery.

She was a member of the Wesleyan Church. Surviving are her husband, J.W. Graft, a son, W.L. Arnold of San Diego; a sister, Mrs. C.H. HARVEY of Los Angeles, a brother, Irwin RINEHART of Narka, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday April 30, 1947 Prominent Topeka Clergyman Dies. Rev. C. Friedstrom Active Civic Leader. The Rev. C.R.E. FRIEDSTROM of 516 West Fouth Street, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, died very suddenly about 3:15 Tuesday afternoon, near the Topeka Country Club. Pastor of the Topeka Lutheran Church June, 1938, the Rev. Mr. Frieddstrom was one of the better known clergymen of the city. He was active in the Topeka Council of Churche's, and had served on the Council's Comity Committee, ever interested in the welfare activites of the entire community. He was also prominent in the Topeka Ministerial Association, and two years ago served as chairman of the protestant committee which was responsible for sending many tons of clothing to the war-torn countries of Europe. Native of Michigan. Born in Calumet, Michigan, October 30, 1890, the Rev. Mr. Friedstorm was ordained to the ministry at DeKalb, Ill., June 15, 1924. He was a graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary of Rock Island, Ill., and prior to coming to Topeka he has served patorates at the First Lutheran churches of Palo Alto, Calif., and Monmouth, Ill. Besides his wife, Mrs. Edna Friedstrom, he leaves a daughter, Miriam and a son, John, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. C.O. Friedstrom, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. C.O. ODELL, Minneapollis, and Mrs. Ethel OLSON, Washington, D.C. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Eighth and Buchanan, Friday afternoon, at 3 o'clock and burial rites will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family requests that no flowers be sent. The body will rest in state at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary until 1 o'clock, Friday afternoon, and at the church from 1 until 2:45. The casket will not be opened at the close of the service.
The Topeka Daily Capital Wednesday April 30, 1947 Last Rites for Mrs. Albaugh Thursday. Wife of GOP Leader Dies After Injury. Funeral services for Mrs. Morton ALBAUGH, who died in a local hospital late Monday evening, will be held Thursday at 2 o'clock at the Wall-Diffenderfer Chapel. The Rev. C.O. Stuckenbruck, pastor of First Christian Church, will be the officiating clergyman, and burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The late Morton Albaugh was prominent in Kansas Republican circles in the early 1900's. For many years, until his death in 1918, he was outstanding in the political life of the state. Mr. and Mrs. Albaugh came to Topeka from Kingman in 1901, when Governor Stanley appointed Mr. Albaugh as State Bank Commissioner. Previously he had been receiver for the R.A. Cross Bank in Emporia. Injured in Fall. Formerly a publisher of a Kansas newspaper, Mr. Albaugh developed a party organization that smashed Populist rule, and became known as one of the most astute political organizers in the state. Mr. Albaugh was clerk of the State Supreme Court at one time, and shortly before his death in 1918, he had prefected the organization which was responsible for the nomination of Henry J. Allen as Governor in the primaries of the following August. Mrs. Albaugh suffered injuries in a fall at her home, 1331 Harrison, Saturday, which resulted in her death late the following day. Mrs. Albaugh, was before her marriage in 1898 was Eule Lee HOUGHTON, was born in Loogootee, Ind. She was 83 years of age at her death, the last member of the family of Aaron Houghton. Prominent in Topeka for many years as an accomplished pianist, Mrs. Albaugh was a charter member of Minerva Club and a member of the Music Study Club. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Topeka. She leaves two children, Mrs. Clatyon KLINE of Topeka and dr. H.S. Albaugh of Olathe, and three grandchildren.

The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday April 29, 1947 Ernest F. Officer, City Youth Leader, Dies Monday Night. Was Scout Official In Topeka for 20 Years; Civic Figure. Ernest F. OFFICER, prominent Topeka businessman and civic leader, died Monday evening in a local hospital following a short illness. Sales manager of Adams Brother Printing Company in Topeka, he had been active in community activities, especially where youths were concerned, for more than a quarter of a century. Hundreds of Topeka boys learned to know him during the 20 years he served as scoutmaster to Troop 16 of the Boy Scouts of America at the First Methodist Church. He was honored at a 20th anniversary celebration a year ago. Recreation Center Leader Monday night, the troop celebrated its 21st anniversary. Officer was also instrumental in establishing the five youth centers which now exist in Topeka. He served as chairman of a committee of the Topeka Council of Social Agencies whose studies and investigations led to the formation of "The Wagon Wheel," "The Hubba Hut," "The Melody HILL," and other recreation centers. For many years, he was a member of the board of directors of the Topeka Young Mens's Christian Association at Ninth and Quincy and was instrumental in helping to establish new youth recreation activities there. Ex-Optimist President Prominent in all types of civic activities, he had served as president of the Topeka Optimist Club. He played a prominent part in establishing and promoting the Halloween festivals which the club has been holding during recent years at the Municipal Auditorium and on downtown streets. He worked with Junior Optimist Clubs as part of the YMCA. Under the program, boys from the poorer sections of the city took part in recreational activities and civic betterment projects. Officer had been connected with the Adms Brothers Printing Company for the last 30 years. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 51. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Officer of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Oren LYON, Scottsbluff, Neb., and Mrs. Al. NORDSTROM, Newton; one son, Fred Officer, Topeka; five grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

THOMPSON, 51, World War I veteran and superintendent of schools at Baldwin, died Monday at Winter Veteran's Hospital. He had been at the Topeka VA institution since March 17. His widow is Mrs. Grace THOMPSON.

He was born May 20, 1872, in Mound City and had been a resident of Topeka since 1901. He had been employed for the last eight years at Pelletier's. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Orient Lodge No. 51, Topeka Chapter, OES, White Shrine and was a past patron of Esther Chapter of the Eastern Star at Herington. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Sproul of the home; two sons, Joseph A. Sproul of Kansas City, Mo., and P. Harold Sproul of Parsons; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. EDWARDS and Miss Dorothy Brashear, both of Topeka; one son, Clyde Brashear, Fayettville, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Joseph COTTLE, Salina; one brother, Walter Brashear, Valley Falls, and four grandchildren. Mrs. Nellie E. Hopkins. Mrs. Nellie E. HOPKINS, 43, died Sunday at her home, 818 North Quincy. She was born Nov. 18, 1903, in Jackson County, and had been a resident of Topeka for the past 33 years. She was a member of the North Topeka Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, Robert Hopkins, Whittier, Calif., Eugene Hopkins and Marlin Hopkins of the home; a daughter, Miss Shirley Ann Hopkins of the home; her mother, Mrs. William H. SMITH, Topeka; three brothers, B. J. SMITH and Vern SMITH of Topeka, Chester SMITH, Oregon City, Ore. Parkers's Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.

I found some old obits from the Hernando Times, Hernando County Florida, date Saturday, June 1, 1991. Don't know if any one is interested but here goes. Otto Frederick Allen, 79, of Inverness, died Thursday May 30, 1991, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. He came here 67 years ago from his native Topeka, Kansas. He was the owner operator of Allen's Five and Ten Store and an elder emeritus at the First Presbyterian Church, both in Inverness. He was a member of the Inverness Golf and Country Club, past master and member of Citrus Masonic Lodge 118, honorary director of the Citrus County Fair Association, and a member of the Scottish Rite Egypt Shrine Temple, the Citrus County Historical Society, the Inverness Elks Lodge, and the board of the Bank of Inverness. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a son, John O., Sanford; a brother John A., Inverness; and four grand children. Charles E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness.
