    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 27, 1951 Mrs. Dora Green, City Jail Matron, Dies at 72. Mrs. Dora GREEN, 72, matron at the city jail, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.W. FLOHRSCHUTZ, near Berryton. She became ill Saturday with a heart ailment and went to her daughter's home. She suffered another heart attack Monday afternoon. She had been a jail matron 18 years and her consistent policy of giving women prisoners fair treatment while under her care attracted much attention. Every Christmas she received cards from all parts of the United States from former prisoners who regarded her as a friend. She became a jail matron in January, 1933, when Dean Rogers assumed his duties as sheriff. Seh moved from the county to the city jail as matron when the late Herbert G. Barrett became mayor in 1937. She served as city jail matron continually since. She was born May 11, 1878, at Olenthis, Mo., and had made her home in the vicinity of Topeka since childhood. For many years, she made her home on a farm near Auburn. She was a member of of Helena Chapter No. 210 O.E.S. and the Kansas State Peace Officers Association. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Flohrschutz, Berryton, and Mrs. Webb COPPINGER, Route 8; a son, Paul GREEN, Route 7; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, H.E. TAYLOR, Topeka, and Earl J. TAYLOR, Cheyenne, Wyo., and serveral nieces and nephews.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 27, 1951 S.E. Brown. S.E. BROWN, 82, retired farmer and real estate dealer, died Sunday in Ottawa. He was born November 28, 1878, in Oskaloosa and was a resident of Rantoul in Franklin County for many years. A brother, Ed Brown, survives.

    3. The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 27, 1951 Mrs. Myrtle Shutt. Mrs. Myrtle SHUTT, 73, died Monday afternoon at her home, 1607 Clay. She was born April 5, 1877, at Alta Vista, Mo., and was married to Simon Milton Shutt November 5, 1900. They observed their golden wedding anniversary last November. She had been a resident of Topeka 55 years and was a member of the Central Park Christian Church and the Security Benefit Association. She is survived by her husband, who is a retired coach trimmer for the Santa Fe Railroad Co., and nieces and nephews.

A pretty home wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chris VINE at Ontario on Wednesday, February 7, 1923, at 1:30 p.m., when their daughter Hattie was united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Mr. Wm. GERHARDT of Netawaka, Kan. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H.F. KROHN of Netawaka Lutheran church in the presence of immediate relatives and friends of the contracting parties. The bridal party took their place beneath a canopy of blue and white to the strains of Mendelssohn's Wedding March played by Miss Daisy OREGON. After an address to bride and groom by their pastor on Gen. 2-18, Miss Erna GERHARDT, sister of the groom, favored the guests with a vocal solo, "Oh Promise Me." Then the ceremony took place after which another solo, "I Love You Truly," was rendered by Geo. VINE, a brother of the bride. Then followed congratulations and all took their places to partake of a two-course wedding dinner. Miss Dora GROVE, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid and Mr. Harry GERHARDT, cousin of the groom, was best man. The bride was gowned in light blue silk crepe de chine, wore a veil and carried a bouquet of fern leaves and white carnations. The bridesmaid wore pink silk crepe de chine and carried a small bouquet, while the groom was handsomely dressed in a navy blue serge suit and wore a buttonhole bouquet. The newly wedded couple left on the evening train from Holton for a short honeymoon trip to St. Joseph, Mo., after which they will make their home on the groom's farm south of Netawaka.

He was born on May 27, 1867, in Newcastle, Pa., and had been a resident of Kansas for 66 years. He moved to Topeka three years ago from Sabetha where he had lived for 63 years. Mr. Warfel was a member of the United Brethren Church. Survivors are: his wife, Mrs. Nellie Warfel of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Leona SAMSON of Parsons, Mrs. Lloyd NICCUM of 324 Topeka, Miss Sarah Warfel of 124 Topeka, and Mrs. Perry BOLTZ of Oneida; two sons, Louis Warfel of Winfield, Oscar Warfel of 2345 Wayne; a brother, J.E. He was born November 2, 1889, in Miltonvale, and was a graduate of the Olathe High School and the Kansas City Dental College. He practiced in Sterling before moving to Topeka 14 yars ago. Dr. McElroy was a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church and the Kansas and Shawnee County Dental socieities. He was obliged to retire on account of his health early in January. She was born October 4, 1884, in Russell and had lived in Topeka since childhood. She was a registered nurse and took her training in Keith Rhodes Hospital in Topeka. For 15 years she did practical nursing in Vinyard Park Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and during World War I did practical nursing. She was a member of Jehovah Witness. He was a lineman for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., for 27 years. He was a member of the Waterloo, Iowa, Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite bodies of Topeka and the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah E. SMITH of St. Joseph; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond NEWMAN, Topeka; two sons, Clarence Smith, Topeka, and Albert Smith, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Robert Smith, Caldwell, Kan.; a sister, Mrs. Carrie SHERWOOD, Topeka; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The body will be brought to Topeka for interment Monday.
