The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Wednesday December 16, 1920 McNew--Wheeler. Miss Gertrude McNEW of Lorena daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. McNew, and Lyle WHEELER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler were married at the court house yesterday afternoon, December 15, by Judge Campbell, relatives being present to witness the ceremony. Both young people are well known in the city and popular in the Lorena neighborhood where they reside. A big dinner was served at the McNew home last night in honor of the event and tonight Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler are giving a party for the newly weds. Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler will reside on a farm in the Lorena community. The Democrat joins their many friends in wishing them a happy married life.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Wednesday December 16, 1920 Jamison--Robbins. Mrs. Pearl JAMISON and F.U. ROBBINS were married Dec. 5 at Kansas City, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Robbins are well known here as they have charge of the New Saford(?) hotel, one of the popular hotels of the city.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Wednesday December 16, 1920 Civil War Veteran Dies. Jarrard BANKS was born in Adams county, Illinois, March 25, 1835, died December 6, 1920. He was 85 years, 8 months, and 11 days old. He was married to Mary E. YOUNG at the age of 28 coming to Kansas in 1876 from Illinois and located on a claim near Wellington, Kansas, later moving on a claim near Caldwell, where his wife died. From there he went to Enid, Okla., where he lived 11 years and then he moved to McAlister, where he remained until his death. Before settling in Kansas he came to the state in '59 where he dug the first well on the site of Girard, a town named for him even though they misspelled his name. He was among the first to locate in Drummond, Okla., and he built the first building in that town. Mr. Banks served in the civil war with the 84th Illinois, Infantry. He is survived by three sons, and two daughters, Alma A. CROOK, Nellie LARSON, Albert A. BANKS, Andrew L. BANKS, of McAlister, Okla., and Willis S. BANKS, of Liberal, Kans. The body was taken to Caldwell, Kans., December 8th, to be bured where his wife and son were laid to rest. The funeral was attended by his son, Willis S. Banks of Liberal. They returned Wednesday. He had visited here at different times and on these trips made many friends who will regret to learn of his death.

The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl HEARN of Arkalon sustained a broken arm Friday when a wagon bed under which she was playing fell and struck her arm. The injury is healing nicely. Another Arm Broken By Car. While cranking his Ford Monday, Mr. KELSING, who travels for the Raleigh Products received a borken arm. Rough Roads Prevented Surgical Operation. The little 6-year-old son of Frank SCHECYLEY and wife swollowed a shingle nail Tuesday. For a time it was feared the effect might be serious and the little fellow was taken to Dr. LEVI at Liberal for an operation but luckily on the ride over, the nail was dislodged and was eliminated at the hospital without an operation.--Beaver Herald.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Monday December 13, 1920 Car Accident Lands Three In Hospital. Two Men And One Woman Injured When Car Turns Over on Lincoln Ave. Sunday afternoon--Men Intoxicated Drove Too Fast. C.E. DOLL of this city, Fred COX of the X I Ranch, near Plains and Mrs. Oscar GEER of Plains, sustained slight injuries Sunday afternoon at about three o'clock, when their car turned over at the corner of First Street and Lincoln avenue, throwing them all to the pavement. The accident occured a block west of the Carson House. They were driving west and turned north when the tip over came. Both men were intoxicated. The three were rushed to a downtown hospital where their injuries were dressed. Mr. Doll received a cut on the back of his head; Mr. Fox had a sprained shoulder and Mrs. Geer dislocated her left wrist. All were badly shaken up bruised and cut by bits of flying glass. Mr. Doll recovered sufficiently to go to his home last night but the other two are still in the hospital. The car was a Ford roadster and belonged to the X I ranch. It was demolished. C.E. Doll was standing on the running board of the machine and Mrs. Fox was driving when they made the sharp curve going at a terrific rate of speed and it is a wonder all were not killed outright. The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Saturday December 11, 1920 Wayne Dickerson and Burton DUBOIS Join Navy. Wayne DICKERSON, son of Robt. Dickerson and Burton Dubois, son of Otis Dubois of this city, left for Kansas City, Friday on No. 2, where they will take the examination to join the Navy. The boys thought it would be a splendid opportunity to see some of the world, as well as get good training and decided to go. Liberal friends hope the life agress with them and they find the enjoyment they anticipate.

The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Wednesday December 8, 1920 Mrs. W. R. MORTIMER passed on to the eternal home last Sunday night at 11:30 o'clock. She had only been sick eight days, and the death came as a shock to everyone. Her childhood home was at Carbon, Indiana. She was 36 years of age at the time of her death. She was married to W.R. Mortimer, on April 14, 1908, and to this union three little boys are left motherless. They are, Ralph, Hubert and Neil, who is not four years old. The family have lived here nearly five years, Mr. Mortimer being the Rock Island agent here until a few months ago when he resigned. Mrs. Mortimer was a member of the Eastern Star here. Mr. Mortimore accompanied the body to Carbon, Indiana, Monday, on No. 2, where the Eastern Star and Masons will conduct the last sad rites of one who was beloved by everyone. Great respect was shown our business men and the grain dealers and depot force and other citizens with a contribution of $65.00 for flowers, which will be placed on her casket.

Packebush was born at Texhoma, Okla., October 19, 1919, and died at Liberal, Kansas, December 6, 1920, aged 1 year, 1 month and 17 days. A simple record of a short life but Oh! how precious. A brighter, fairer world called him and he hasted away. Weep not, father and mother, for your little one has gone on before and will await your coming. The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Monday December 6, 1920 Little Girl Bitten In Face By Kitten. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. WHITLOCK, of Penn. ave., was taken to Kansas City Sunday morning for pasteur treatment. She was bitten in the face and neck by a ktten Thursday and the animal later died in a fit. Physicians advised the child be given the pasteur treatment.
