The Topeka Daily Capital Tuesday March 16, 1920 Edward M. McCabe Dies. Was Only Negro Who Ever Held State Office In Kansas. Edward P. McCABE, 71, the only Negro ever elected to a state office in Kansas, died Saturday in a hospital in Chicago. In 1882 he ran for state auditor on the Republican ticket and was elected by an overwhelming majority. Two years later he was re-elected. Before running for the state office, he was county clerk of Graham county for two terms. At the close of his second term as state auditor, McCabe went to Oklahoma, where he was assistant state auditor for several years. In recent years he has been in business in Chicago. The body arrived in Topeka yesterday and the funeral was held at 2 p.m. from Talty's chapel. Burial took place in Topeka cemetery.

The Liberal Daily News Seward County Friday October 15, 1920 The 3-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. STRICKLAND, who lived near Lorena, died last night. The little girl had a very bad case of diptheria which resulted in her death. The interment will probably be held tomorrow afternoon.

BAIRD, who was very badly burned a few days ago by falling into a tub of scalding water, is much better and resting a little. The baby was burned all over her body and caused a great deal of pain for the little lady.

The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Friday March 11, 1921 Mel Postlewaite Died Early This Morning. Mel POSTLEWAITE died at 6 o'clock this morning at the home of his brother, on North Prospect and 5th street, following an attack of apoplexy. He had been sick with pneumonia and was about recovered when the stroke came. Mr. Postelwaite is a bachelor. The funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon. His father is expected on No. 3 tonight when definite arrangements for the funeral will be made. Interment will be made in the Liberal cemetery. The National guards of Liberal will have charge of the funeral.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Friday March 11, 1921 Paul Light Junior Hurt By Passing Automobile. Paul W. LIGHT, Jr., son of Paul W. Light, the grain man, was injured this morning by being struck by a passing auto on the Light boulevard. He was severely cut about the head and one bone in his leg was broken.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Tuesday March 8, 1921 Ethel Ann Pearce FOIST was born in Cardwell, Mo., April 25, 1899. Died in Raton, New Mexico, March 4, 1921, aged 21 years, 10 months and 8 days. At the age of six she came with her parents to Liberal, Kansas, where she lived most of her life. She was married to M.H. Foist, January 6, 1920, with whom she happily lived until her decease. Shortly after their marriage they movd to Raton, New Mexico, from which place her soul took its flight into the eternal. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, father, mother, brother, and many other relatives and friends. She was a member of the Christian church and died in the faith of her savior. Her gracious and happy presence will be sadly missed in our hearts. We are comforted in the hope that we shall meet again in that eternal city where death never comes.
The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Monday March 7, 1921 Helen Settles Sobba. Mrs. Helen Settles SOBBA, wife of Joe Sobba, who died Monday, Feb. 21, at 12 o'clock, noon, was born Sept. 12, 1902, at Carrolton, Mo. Her mother died about eight years ago, and she went to Liberal, Kansas, where she lived with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. FINLEY until she came to Pratt about three years ago. When her father and brothers came to Pratt she decided to move here. On August 25, 1919, she was married to Mr. Joe Sobba, a well known young farmer living about 7 miles south of town. They at once began houskeeping on the farm where she made many friends among the neighbors. She was also well known to many Pratt people. She joined the Catholic church about a year ago, where she was a faithful member. Besides her husband and her father, A.M. Settles, four brothers, were left to mourn their loss, Harvey, Roy, Jeff and W.H. Settles. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church on North Oak street Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with Rev. Father George J. Schneider officiating. Interment made at Greenlawn cemetery.--Pratt Union.

The Liberal Daily Democrat Seward County Saturday March 5, 1921 Ethel Pierce Foist Died Friday Night. The sad news came to the Pierce family this morning that their daughter, Mrs. Ethel FOIST, had died at a hospital in Raton, N.M., at 10:00 o'clock Friday night. The news was a shock to the family and to her host of friends in Liberal, as a letter had just been received that she was in very good health. The body was shipped to Liberal Monday for interment in the Liberal cemetery. A large circle of friends extend their sympathies to the heart broken family and other relatives.
