Thanks for responding, Mary! I had an earlier note from Kathy McCullough, so I think she is going to check for me. This is the information I sent her: My great-grandfather, Irvin D. Black, Brookville, married Lucy A. Bellmore, of Independence, Mo., on 28 April 1905 at Salina. I have a copy of the marriage license (#3467, Marriage Record F, page 433) from Saline County. The 1910 federal census has Lucy A. Bellmore listed in Kirk, Yuma County, Colorado, as divorced and living with her son, Charles H. Bellmore. I have a general warranty deed from Ellsworth County dated 8 January 1910 involving Irvin D. Black and a number of his children, in which he is described as unmarried. Irvin D. Black's first wife, Bertha, had died in 1903. There were several minor children, so he must have been looking for someone to care for them, but it apparently didn't work out. So there must have been a divorce prior to 1910. That's the time frame to check, 1905-1910. Of course, it may not have been filed in Saline County. With all those Ellsworth County connections, don't overlook checking their records! I would bet that Irvin Black was in some way related to Homer Black, of Kanopolis. Homer would now be over 125 years old, and had roots in the Brookville area, but was a neighbor of ours in Kanopolis many years ago. Because of their longterm connections, the Black family kind of claimed their home in both Ellsworth and Saline Counties! They had a son who lived just west of Carneiro, near the Saline County line. Although I don't remember his first name, he had sons who would now be in their 60's, named Don and Dean Black, who still own the farm, as far as I know.
