On reading some of the addresses of these folks, I noticed one was 1722 West 29th St, Oklahoma City. I used to live there and there are 2 "West 29th" streets. One is Northwest, the second is Southwest. And there is quite a distance between the two. She might want to check a little closer on location. Since it is 1926, there should be information on the censuses of 1930 and 1940 to reflect NW (northwest) or SW (southwest), Hope this helps. Shirley Trekell In a message dated 8/14/2013 12:26:57 A.M. No location indicated on photograph, likely taken in the 1890's. The two women appear to be in their 30's or 40's and the children range from about 3 years to early teens. The second photograph is one of Mary Catherine WILLIAMS HARTER, wife of Leander Douglass HARTER with children Mabel and Basil. The photograph was taken at the Uhlman Studio in St. Joseph, Missouri. Likely taken in the 1880's, Mary appears to be in her 20's with Basil an infant and Mabel about 4 years old. Hello all-- I've added a few things to the site this month, including the 1907 Saline High School annual, Saline alumni 1878-1906, other school data including teachers' list, district school clerks from 1886, school reports and a few graduation lists. I've also added the "Chronicles of 1876," a list of happenings from that year as reported in the Salina newspaper, and 20 obituaries from Jan. and Feb., 1889. Please visit us at: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kssalihp/index.html Sheryl
I finished up the 1878 Polk's Gazetteer and Business Directory and have place it on the Saline Co. website. It lists the communities and towns in existence in 1878 within Saline Co., with a brief description of the place's location and features. The larger towns also had a business directory included. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kssalihp/index.html Thanks, Sheryl
I've been looking for this little book for a while and finally found it. This directory lists all members of the family (including the wife's maiden name), mail route, section and township, name of owner (if different from head of household), total acreage, year owner came to Saline Co., and telephone service, if they had one. I have scanned the pages and created a surname index. You can use the search engine on the site or (suggested) look through the directory yourself--I may have made a transcription error (I know, hard to believe.....) or the name may have been misspelled in the original record. If you do spot an error, either mine or in the directory, let me know and I will make a correction in the index. I will also add a gazetteer to the site later today, so check back. Go to http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kssalihp/index.html and click on the "Directories" button on the left to find the 1920 directory. Thanks! Sheryl
Hello all- I have created a new, free website for Saline Co. researchers: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kssalihp/index.html Saline Co. is the newest site in the "Kansas History and Heritage Project." The KHHP is dedicated only to Kansas and her counties, and is still growing--Saline Co. is the 12th county in the project with its own website, but I will continue to add more county websites, all with searchable (and I hope useful) data for researchers. For counties that do not yet have their own sites, I will still collect data and store it on the state site, located here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kahhp/index.html , where it can be found by clicking on the "County Archives" link. The new Saline Co. site features plat maps, marriages for 1881 and 1882, over 100 older obituaries, lots of G.A.R. data (it's kinda an obsession of mine!), biographies, 1903 directories and more. Please visit and let me know what you think, and I will be happy to make any corrections in the data--even "official" records often misspelled names. Thanks, Sheryl
I've been sending this email to several different mail lists in order to promote my free ancestry website for beginners. This is not spam. It is only about free ancestry research. I am not profiting from this in any way. I just wanted to do something good for people. Over the years I have been on many Rootsweb mail lists. A person who I was exchanging emails with suggested I send it to a few of the lists in different states and see what happens. So that is what I am doing. Most likely you will see this email more then once if you are on many mail lists. I apologize if it annoys you. In my frustration with the so-called free ancestry websites and free sites which are so cluttered you need a GPS to find your way out, I created my own. It's a simple collection of free ancestry resources and how to use them. My wife and friends encouraged me to put this website together. I kept getting questions from people who knew I was doing ancestry research and wanted to try it themselves. They were beginners and wanted to know where to go to get information about their ancestry. So I put this website together: http://sites.google.com/site/FunSimpleFreeAncestry It contains a lot of links to websites that are already in many of the GenWeb County websites. I just put them all together with examples of how to use them. So far I have received a lot of great feedback . If you have a website and you would like to add my website as a link, then please do. Thanks, Dan Smith

Hi Listers, I do lookups for obituaries and special newspaper articles. Please contact me direct mytree22@q.com<mailto:mytree22@q.com>. Michelle
With all those Ellsworth County connections, don't overlook checking their records! I would bet that Irvin Black was in some way related to Homer Black, of Kanopolis. Homer would now be over 125 years old, and had roots in the Brookville area, but was a neighbor of ours in Kanopolis many years ago. Because of their longterm connections, the Black family kind of claimed their home in both Ellsworth and Saline Counties! They had a son who lived just west of Carneiro, near the Saline County line. Although I don't remember his first name, he had sons who would now be in their 60's, named Don and Dean Black, who still own the farm, as far as I know. Bellmore, of Independence, Mo., on 28 April 1905 at Salina. I have a copy of the marriage license (#3467, Marriage Record F, page 433) from Saline County. The 1910 federal census has Lucy A. Bellmore listed in Kirk, Yuma County, Colorado, as divorced and living with her son, Charles H. Bellmore. I have a general warranty deed from Ellsworth County dated 8 January 1910 involving Irvin D. Black and a number of his children, in which he is described as unmarried. Irvin D. Black's first wife, Bertha, had died in 1903. There were several minor children, so he must have been looking for someone to care for them, but it apparently didn't work out. So there must have been a divorce prior to 1910. That's the time frame to check, 1905-1910. Of course, it may not have been filed in Saline County. I'm interested in any information in the file, if there is one in Saline County. Is there anyone in Salina who would be willing to look up a divorce record in the district court office there? The time frame involved is rather narrow. Marvin Huggins Saint Louis, Missouri
I am trying to find birth/death dates and place of burial for Stephen P. and Jane KELLEY. They appear on the 1880 census as living in Smoky Hill, Saline Co., KS. He was born about 1837 (NY) and she was born about 1832 in Canada. They seem to have died prior to the 1900 census. By 1900, their two sons had married and moved on to Missouri; their daughter to Kansas. Any help greatly appreciated! Julia
