(Signed) J. Rouquie Interview with Ulysses and Eugene Simoneau, sons of Emile Sinoneau, grandsons of Peter Simoneau. Ulysses said his grandmother, Delphine Bechard Simoneau, would read from a new book, evening after evening, to his grandfather, Peter Simoneau. After the book was finished his grandfather could repeat the story almost word for word. Ulysses recalled that his grandfather sang in the church choir and always held a songbook, but said he couldn't read. He played the violin left-handed and taught all his sons to play. Peter Simoneau was a carpenter and a farmer. He was a great story teller, and had short and long versions of the same story. The long version could go on for hours. Eugene remembers when he was in about the third grade of his grandfather Simoneau telling the stories of his ancestor in France, describing the hills, trees and streams in the place where the Simoneau's lived in France. Eugene said his grandfather spoke of story telling parties on Saturday evenings. Guests would stay overnight and the host was always the storyteller. 1900 Federal Census Federal Census for June 17 & 18, 1900, Richland City, Rooks County, Kansas Simoneau Peter Delphine Medore Alice Adela Emily Eveline Emile Oliver Relationship to Family Head Wife Son Daughter Daughter Daughter Daughter Son Son Color and Sex White, Male White, Female White, Male White, Female White, Female White, FemaleWhite, Female White, Male White, Male Date of Birth Jan 1852 Jul 1858 Jan 1878 Aug 1882 Oct 1884 Dec 1886 Jan 1890 Dec 1892 Mar 1898 Age 47 41 22 17 15 13 10 7 2 Married Status Married Married Single Single Single Single Single Single Single Years Married 25 25 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Number of How many children 0 12 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Number of these children living 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 Person Birthplace Can-Fr Illin Illin Illin Illin Kans Kans Kans Kans Fathers Birthplace Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Can-Fr Mothers Birthplace Can-Fr Can-Fr Illin Illin Illin Illin Illin Illin Illin Occupation & Other Data Farmer N/A Helps Father Helps Mother Helps Mother School School N/A N/A Can Speak English Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes N/A Can Read No Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Can Write No Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes No Owned or Rent Owned N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A Free of Mortgage Free N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A Farm or Home Farm N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A Volume # ?, Sheet 4, Line ?, Enumeration District ?., Peter is my g,great grandfather, Research 3-16-97 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
