Oliva Western Books Woodston, Kansas 67675 1985 pages 177 & 178 DUNLAP, WALTER Walter Dunlap, son of P. C. and Fedelia Jane Dunlap, was born near Woodston on September 23, 1882. He moved to Woodston with the family at an early age, where he grew to manhood and became asociated with his father in the hardware and implement business. Walter married Vera M. Hadley of Cawker City, on July 3, 1912. They had three sons: Walter Jr., Gerauld H., and Paul C. All were born in Woodston. In 1925 the family moved to a farm north of Woodston where they lived and farmed until the tragic death of Walter on February 14, 1942. During those years, the three sons graduated from Woodston Rural High School. In 1985 Gerauld lives on a farm one mile west of Woodston and Paul lives in Colorado Springs. Walter, Jr., passed away on February 7, 1968, at the age of 54 years. A short time after Walter's death, Vera moved into Woodston where she became active in many affairs of the community and the Methodist church. She taught the Methodist Young Adult Sunday School Class for a number of years. She was also city librarian for several years. She was president of the Woodston High School PTA for several years and was responsible for it being formed. In 1961 Vera married a family friend, John Rarick. They made their home in Woodston. John became active in community affairs, serving on the city council and as mayor for some time. John died August 23, 1974, at the age of 84, and Vera died September 9, 1974, at the age of 85.
