William died 27 Mar 1914 and Catharine died 18 Mar 1901 in Rooks county. I would also like to obtain copies of their obituaries. The family resided in Plainville (village & township) as early as 1879. I have a great deal of information on the ancestors of Catharine (JACKSON) MCCLAY that I am willing to share. Thank you. Author: d8wf8inVB Surnames: Barrett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.rooks/286/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to track my 2nd great grandfather. The sketchy info I have is he lived in Rooks County. After the death of his first wife, Sarah Louise, he married a Clara (Carrie) Sayre. He supposedly died 1 Dec 1883 and is buried in Alcona Cemetery. Carrie then married a Bishop Sample in 1885. I do not know how the records are in Rooks County (death, Probate, etc.) or if there is a source that would have obituaries from 1883. I put a request on Findagrave for a photo. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks Robin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [KSROOKS] Official State Atlas of Nebraska (atlas on CD review)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: r_a_green Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.rooks/285/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties, an abridged atlas of county and city maps from 'The Official State Atlas of Kansas, Everts & Kirk, 1887'. The Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties (Zone 1-12) Atlas is a complete set of 1887 Kansas county maps. Each of the 12 Zones consists of a series of 8-10 bordering county maps making up all 106 Kansas counties. Each Zone Atlas contains high resolution scanned images of vintage 19th century county and city maps that are presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). Individual Zone CD's are available as well. In addition to all 106 Kansas county maps, there are nearly 800 city and village maps on this CD. City maps and plans are often more detailed and include the names of many original property owners, businesses, municipal buildings, etc. Please note: some small city and village map plans include street and lot detail only. Maps include the following 19th century features: * roads, railroads and canals * cities, towns and villages * post offices and government sites * one-room schoolhouses, churches and cemeteries * rivers, streams and ferries * racetracks, fairgrounds and picnic groves * industrial sites, furnaces and mills * early homesteads and farms - and much more The Historic Atlas of Kansas Counties may be an invaluable aid to Genealogists, Historians and researchers in search of 19th century Kansas places and place names. These early maps often contain many places that no longer exist or that have been obscured over time; the location of property owners, businesses, churches and cemeteries may assist genealogical researchers interested in Kansas history. The Adobe Acrobat Reader for MS Windows is needed to view, zoom, pan and print from the PDF map images contained in this atlas, and is included free on each CD. No other software is necessary. 2. Jackie: Happened upon your msg and thought that I would give you a shout and see how things are going. Have you been seeing any Bengal Tigers in your area. I haven't noticed any reports lately. Am going to be coming out to Kansas sometime in July to do a little fishing at the Webster Reservoir and along the Saline River. Am not looking to run into any of the big cats out there. Hope that the added moisture this Spring has allowed a good crop to be had this year. Here in Denver we have been ducking the funnel clouds and heavy hail for about the past two weeks and now the temperature is in thehigh 90's. I have never run across an online listing for that cemetery. You can obtain obits for Andrew Jackson Morris and Verna J. Morris by ordering them from the Plainville Library. Use this link and you will find them listed on the Plainville Times Obituary Index and you can send off for the obits ($5 each). http://www.ckls.org/~jswan/1Plainville/PlainvilleDeathsM.html Usually, they list the burial site in the obituary. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Janelle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I need to find out if Ellen/Mary Ellen Samuels died in Kansas or Florida in 1923. I have found her Husband with death certificate in Florida but she has eluded me someone suggested that she may have died in Kansas and this is why husband and younger sons went to Florida. They were said to be living in Rooks or Norton and maybe Ellis. She was a Gimerson/ Jimmerson Anything on any of these surnames with a Kansas connection will be appreciated.
