I seek any data on Samuels family, probably prior to 1930, especially cemetery. Paper news items and any civil records, on line. I believe the elder Samuels , John live his final years with a daughter Jeannie Rippey or perhaps an Easton. I think they came to the area after the civil war but this may be a misconception. I know they came from Missouri. James Henry Samuels is the son of, and it is said John had six children with his second wife; Mary Ellen GIMMERSON. But by 1910 the daughters are not on the census where the count says 6 children. Who are the girls and when did they die.? I have a very good book on Gimmerson lines, not research by me and I will do look ups. Gimmerson get many spellings and for me begins as an Ohio family. dwsbgs@centrytel.net Bud in Mo.

What a beautiful post. My Rooks County Kansas family(SAMUELS and GIMMERSON) left no such information. I was fascinated to learn the French storytelling tradition and see a French marriage document. Luc Brown was born in Munster, Germany. He married Louise Marie Couet who was born in 1761. I have three children for them at this time: Anne Marie Brown who married Charles Simoneau. They had eight children: Louise, Augustin, Francois Xavier, Joseph, Julien, Rosalie, Sophie, and Venerade. Their son Joseph born in 1822 married Angele Lacombe. They had a daughter named Helene who was born in 1850. This is where the Simmoneau family connects with the Brown family. Good luck in your search. John Rouquie, Witnesses: Baptiste Simoneau Sr, Joseph Simoneau, Baptiste Simoneau Jr. and Flavie Lanoue. Peter's age is 22 years. Married record reads: "The 27 June eighteen hundred seventy five, I, the undersigned missionary priest announce the benediction nuptials of Pierre Simoneau, age 22 years, age of majority, legitimate son of J. Baptiste Simoneau and Olive Hebert, parties of the first part, and the bride Delphine Bechard, age 17 years, daughter of the legitimate marriage of Israil Bechard and the late Petronith Lanou, substitute in her place, Madam Flavie Lanou, her grandmother, The marriage was celebrated in the presence of Baptiste Simoneau, Joseph Simoneau, Baptiste Simoneau, son, and Dame Flavie Lanou. (Signed) J. Rouquie Interview with Ulysses and Eugene Simoneau, sons of Emile Sinoneau, grandsons of Peter Simoneau. Ulysses said his grandmother, Delphine Bechard Simoneau, would read from a new book, evening after evening, to his grandfather, Peter Simoneau. After the book was finished his grandfather could repeat the story almost word for word. Ulysses recalled that his grandfather sang in the church choir and always held a songbook, but said he couldn't read. He played the violin left-handed and taught all his sons to play. Peter Simoneau was a carpenter and a farmer. He was a great story teller, and had short and long versions of the same story. The long version could go on for hours. Eugene remembers when he was in about the third grade of his grandfather Simoneau telling the stories of his ancestor in France, describing the hills, trees and streams in the place where the Simoneau's lived in France. Eugene said his grandfather spoke of story telling parties on Saturday evenings. Married -- Blanche Newell, born April 21, 1886 at Damar, Kansas, married February 27, 1905 in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Damar, Kansas; died July 26, 1966 at Damar, Kansas. He was baptized in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at Dobie, Wisconsin. He is buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Damar, Kansas. Maxim Desaire rode a paint horse all the way to Cloud County Kansas from Rice Lake, Wisconsin when he was 16 years of age. He later settled in Damar, Kansas first working for Mack Newell in a horse and mule livery stable. He then turned to farming until he lost the family farm following the Great Depression during "dirty thirties" when a severe drought settled over the prairie for a second time. Dust storms were so severe ropes were tied from the farm house door and stretched to the windmill so water could be drawn from the well and delivered to the farm house. Cattle and hogs were turned loose and roamed the prairie looking for any bit of green vegetation to eat. Most of them starved to death during the severe drought. After Maxim lost his farm ground, he fed his large family using his carpenter skills and common labor. He retained a meager income off a small farm he was able to keep. Maxim was a severe alcoholic. While it is said that Frank Desaire never touched alcohol, Maxim gave Blanche a lifetime of heartaches because of his drinking. I recall one moment when I was about seven years of age. I found him burying a bottle of "rot gut" wine in Blanche's flower bed as she cursed him in French, "Cashaw" - meaning "the hog". He buried his bottle of rot-gut wine so Blanche would not pour his home-made wine into the hog slop bucket. Maxim's sons were heavy drinkers too. Christmas and New Years were holidays when the whole Desaire clan would gather together at Memae's (the French word for Grandma) house. Many times the children would be herded into the north bedroom by the wives of the Desaire brothers, as the Desaire brothers had fist-fights in the living room while kicking out the windows of Blanche's home in the cold of winter. All my cousins should appreciate this story. On Sunday mornings we would drive to town to MeMae's before going to church. Blanche would grab each kid by the hair of our heads and scrub our faces with her greasy, dirty dish rag before allowing us to enter the church. If her dish rag wasn't wet enough, she would spit on it and then scrub our face until it was squeaky clean! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. When it rains it pours some time. I lost my mother to old age Feb 15, 2004. I was not with her but my sister and brother were there. Mom was in a semi-coma and my brother and sister were on each side of her bed telling stories about their younger days and were enjoying themselves laughing and carrying on. Well there is a very small space between laughter and crying and one of the stories got both of them crying. As they were wiping the tears, Mom opened her eyes and looked at them and said, "Don't cry," and drifted back off into her coma. She was still taking care of them until her last dieing breath. We have introduced two new grandchildren since we last were in contact. Our son Tony an Lynn have a little boy Anton Maxiam (named after my wife Betty's father Anton Dome and my grandfather Maxim Desaire. He was born Sept 3, 2005 and his sister Jessie Lynn born Oct 8, 2007. Our dauther Heather Desaire is a college professor at Kansas University. She is working on developing a vaccine for Aides and learned recently the man who heads up giving the research grants for the National Science Foundation is reviewing Heather's research for a large research grant to expand her research work. Heather is working in an area that other researchers have said would not work for about 5 years and she is about ready to begin to test a number of possible vaccines. She has developed her own company with two other women and they will market the products they develop through this company. Researchers around the world have been trying to develop a vaccine for about 25 years now without success. Heather's group has developed a technique whereby they can tell whether a product will work or not before a vaccine is every developed. I have semi-retired from the seed business - I sell a little seed in Nebraska and I took on a company called Stoller that has some very good products. We are attempting to get the Stoller products into the largest seed companies. We have some success but not enough yet to be satisfied. My wife Betty has 4 more years to go before she retires from being a grads school principal here in Grand Island, nebraska. We are looking forward to the day she can call it quits. We have been doing some traveling over the last two years. We went to Paris, France two years ago with our daughter and her boyfriend. Then this summer in June we went to Rome Italy with Betty's sister and her family. Enjoyed both trips. I am still doing the genealogy work every day almost. So far I have connected 198,850 names in my gedcom. I get a lot of inquiries from folks looking for their ancestors and I try to help them out as best I can. It is an enjoyable hobby. I lost contact with you several years ago after I crashed my computer. I always enjoy reading your stories and looking at photos. We have lost several in our line since I last had contact with you. I lost my husband Joseph Leroy Wheeldon on November 13, 2007 (birth July 30, 1936). He won his battle with lung cancer after surgery in 2000 but died from a massive heart attack. All 4 of our kids, their spouses, and a granddaughter and one of my sisters were with me at the hospital when he died. Then on February 21, 2009 my youngest son's wife Bette Jean Staley Wheeldon lost her 1 1/2 year battle of breast cancer. Their two daughters are turning 14 and 13 this year. I also lost a sister Linda Kay Sill March 29, 2003 from cancer. She was born September 24, 1943 the daughter of Orville Clifton Sill and Mary Virginia Morr. A cousin Gary Leland Sill was born April 11, 1941 and died May 27, 2003 from ! cancer. Gary was the son of Keith Leland Sill and Grace Louise Jackson. Everything in our lives isn't black though. In the last four years I have gained two great-granddaughters. I think you probably need more dates and places to update your files. If you are interested, please let me know. There is a 1942 marriage for a Vina Dubuque, but can't tell if it's your LaVina. By the way, I checked the 1900 Snohomish Co. census and it says Henry and Harriet had been married 15 years, which makes it 1885, and Harriet had 6 children with 6 living at the time, although only 5 are listed in this census. And this census gives the month and year of births. Gloria Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
