Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other genealogical mailing list available, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller's Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any Rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. If you are having problem and I do not answer you right away, know that I will. I like many of you work full time outside of my home. I am fortunate that I can check my e-mail any time I wish, but know that there are spaces of time I cannot. I always check my e-mail each and every evening and will respond to message as quickly as possible. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. On the other hand when the entire message is in CAPS we feel that we are being yelled at. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. 7. If your list has the gateway open, meaning the messages posted on the board also hit he list, know that every once in a while a SPAM message that is caught by the Board filter slips through the gateway and hits the list before it can be stopped. JUST DELETE IT. By responding to the list regarding he offending message, you just continue it on, and there is not one thing I can do about it at that point. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. thank you Brenda,.....I too have this very book, and my William V. Wolf (3rd great grandfather is mentioned as well in it. This is why I wish to learn more of Jacob and John. I believe they may be kin, but can't find much more about them. I found some census on Jacob, but wish to learn of his orbituary, or cemetery record if listed in library or elsewhere. thanks again! nettie -----Original Message----- From: Brenda Reeder [mailto:kyseeker@comcast.net] Sent: Saturday, July 02, 2005 2:34 AM To: KSROOKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KSROOKS] Please help with WOLF in Woodston Cemetery In the Woodson A Story of A Kansas Country town it states. Carla, sorry not to get to you sooner but I was in Montana for 9 days on a fly fishing trip only to get home at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and fly out at 6:30 am the next morning to spend 5 days in Rhode Island for work. Our flights were late every place yesterday and we didn't end up back until 1:30 am and I only woke at about 1:30 pm today. I checked the Plainville book and there was this: Marjorie Pulec: In 1927, Marjorie Pulec moved to Plainville with her parents, Charles and Tona Morris, her two brothers, Jimmy and Russell, and her sister, Lorna. Her father worked in the oil patch. In 1929 she married Eddie Pulec from Zurich. They had two sons Jack and Mickie, and one daughter Joyce Marcotte. All three children went to school in Plainville. The Pulecs bought the old Fike home and lived there until May of 1983, when Marjorie moved to Countryside Lane. Eddie passed away in 1979, and Marjorie died in March, 1988, The Lest We Forget Vol. 2 has this but no picture of the family: Prokop Pulec: Prokop Pulec came to the Unites States from Bohemia (Czechoslovakia). He was a twin and the fifth child of Rosalie Kozak Pulec and Frantisek Pulec (born July 4, 1860). Frantisek (Frank) was a brick layer in Velke Pritovne. Prokop's children thought it romantic that when he came to America he met his future bride on the same ship. This young lady was Mary Jelenik (Jelinek and or Jelenek), born April 13, 1866. Prokop married Mary in Rooks County at the residence of the bride's parents on April 13, 1884 in Rooks County, Their children were born in rapid succession. In 1887, Prokop became a naturalized citizen and in 1888 he filed on a claim northeast of Zurich. It was called "The Ranch". The buildings were made of stone, giving a very permanent aspect. Fourteen children were born near Zurich and attended the Zurich Public School. It seemed an eight grade education was the goal. As the older boys grew up they married and became farmers. Two daughters, Lula and rose married brothers who were also farmers. Misfortune came to the family when Prokop died march 4, 1916 leaving his wife with several children in the home. All worked hard to help their mother in farming and milking many cows. Even grandchildren helped gather cow chips for fuel and pick garden produce. Prokop was buried on a plot on his own land and the grave site is still there. Mary walked to his grave every day that she was able. All the children married except one and all had their own homes or professions. Charlie did not marry. In 1979, only four are living, two in Rooks County, one in Norton County and one in Grand Junction (Mesa County), Colorado. (A lot of people from Rooks County moved to Colorado.) When the children were asked why Prokop came to America, two thoughts emerged. One was the long military service required of men, and religion. However, he had sons in the military service of the United States but he did not live to se this. Prokop's wife died January 19, 1949 and was buried at the same rural burial site as he husband. His mother lies in rest in Wilbur, Nebraska (1826-1896) at the side of her second husband, John Jirotka (1824-1893). Prokop's mother, Rosalie in 1880, lived in Walnut Township, Rooks County, with her second husband. She was a doctor. Prokop and Mary's oldest children were all born near Zurich. 1. James, born August 4, 1885, died July 30, 1966, married Christina Ginther; 2. Isadore, born May 10, 1887, died June 19, 1936, married Nelda Bedore; 3. William, (born) October 22, 1888, died April 27, 1955, married Ellen Haley; 4. Rose, born august 11, 1890, died 1950, married Frank Aksamit; 5. Lula, born May 30, 1892, married Emil Aksamit; 6. Edmund, born November 22, 1893, died December 18, 1967, married Lucille Oonant; 7. Laura, born June 5, 1896, died September 24, 1959, married Charles Novak; 8. Eleanor, born February 15, 1898, died February 28, 1978, married Fred Newbaum; 9. Teckla, born September 20, 1899, died May 13, 1965, married Frank Dinuzzo; 10. Zophia, born May 16, 1901, married William Thyfault; 11. Albina, born January 17, 1903, deceased, married Jim Vocelka; 12. Eddie, born October 13, 1905, married Marjorie Morris; 13. Charlie born July 14, 1907, died September 15, 1965; 14. Clotilda (Tillie), born June 3, 1912, married William Lawson. Submitted by Lydia S. Bishop, granddaughter of Prokop; daughter of Lula. Zurich was in Logan Township and I have not transcribed the plat map for that township but it is next in the list, check back to the main page and you can go to the atlas and see when it gets added to the list and I can then make you a copy of the map so you can figure out where their family burial plot was. Also check the obituary listing and the Plainville Newspaper on my page where you can see if any of their obituaries are listed and you can then purchase a copy from the Plainville Library. Do you have the listing of them coming on a ship? If not I have full access to Ancestry.com and can look them up and see the name of the ship and port of arrival and all other information. Most of the time I can find a picture of the ship. Good luck and let me know if you need anything. I also have full access to census records. According to his Mar 1916 obituary, it says " it was one of the largest ever held in that vicinity showing the universal esteem in which he was held". therefore, I am HOPING there may be a story in the history book of Rooks County. Can anyone give me directions from Russell, KS to Codell Cemetery. Thanks Jackie Langholz <langholz@ruralte l.net> To KSROOKS-L@rootsweb.com 04/28/2005 05:46 cc AM Subject Re: [KSROOKS] Stream Name - Codell Please respond to KSROOKS-L@rootswe b.com The creek is now named Paradise Creek. It used to be called Salt Creek, I have a map from the 60's that shows it was still called Salt Creek. Sometime after that it was changed to Paradise Creek. I'm not familiar with the area, but USGS has no record of a "Codell" cemetery. There is one not to far to the north and west of town listed in the GNIS database called Center Cemetery. Could that be it? -----Original Message----- From: Judith.Salmans@wichita.edu [mailto:Judith.Salmans@wichita.edu] Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2005 7:06 AM To: KSROOKS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KSROOKS] Stream Name - Codell Can anyone give me directions from Russell, KS to Codell Cemetery. You are probably referring to the Paradise Creek which flows very close to Codell and east into Natoma, KS. A little further to the south is the Saline River.
