He was born about 1828 and I don't know where. He married Martha Bascom April 12, 1850 in Vernon, County of Shiawassee, Michigan. I can backtrack Martha's lineage to the 1300's.His surname could have several spellings. Grandma used to say that there was a link to William Maxwell Evarts.George joined the Wisconsin Cavalry, Company M 2nd Regiment commanded by Co Washburne. He died October 17, 1862 of fever in Keokuk, Iowa after he mustered out at Helena, Arkansas. Martha died February 18, 1864. They had 2 sons, Asahel Burdette born in Wisconsin went to live with Luther D and Elvira Whitney. Arthur was born in New York and went to live with Asa and Charlotte Bascom at Clifton, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Asa was martha's brother. You don't mention anything about Republic county Kansas in your query. I have a Republic county book .There is a S.L. Everts It talks about his military career .He inlisted in Allegan county Michigan Jan 2 1863 It has a long paragraph on his company etc.He was mustered out honorably dicharged at Camp Chase,Ohio ,June 14th,1865.
