He enlisted in the Civil War at Galesburg, he was a corporal. Mr. Millen was with Sherman during the seize of Atlanta and through his famous march to the sea. After his discharge, he and his family moved to Minnesota where he operated a grist mill. In 1885 the family moved to the farm five miles east of Republic. Mr. Millen officiated at several funerals when a minister wasn't available. Mrs. Millen served as nurse and mid-wife. He attended the seventy-fifth anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg in 1938. He passed away at the age of 98 years. Mr. Millen's children were Sylvester, who died in infancy, Edgar, Melvin and Frank. Edgar married Rosena Kahlor, December ***** Page 176 30, 1886. They were the first couple married in die old court house. Etta and Edythe were the daughters. Edgar was a Republic Mail Carrier. Melvin lived in Wyoming. Frank married Mary J. Gardner, September 18, 1901. They moved to the farm where she now resides. Children were Herrald, Clarence, Francis, Howard, Zelda and Bertha. Frank died July 13, 1943. Pupils were sent to Hungry Hollow school for three or four yearsbefore a school house was built. Section 18 N.E.L.R. Palmer 1877 SE 1/4, Lewis Palmer, 1878 ---------------- Page 452 Belleville City Mr. and Mrs. Palmer were a very distinguished looking couple, he with his goatee beard and she, with her pompadour and stately walk, were very attractive They went to Carrollton, Missouri in August 1895 to take charge of a new hotel and B. L. Dawson took over the management of the Republic. This was also managed by Schuyler Crummer and then Palmer came back and ran it again until 1910 when they moved to Kansas City. ------------------ Several Lewis family members but did not list an Esther Lewis. Esther Sears Lewis was Lewis Sears Palmer mother who died in Streling, Blue Earth Co., Minnesota. and never was in Republic Co., Kansas There was a Lewis family is Concordia that was related and also the Brown family lines married the George Ross and Mary Jane Palmer line. The name was the listed as the Pastor on Chanucey Monroe Messenger and Hester Elena Palmer marriage licence. The is the list of the Palmer lines that came to the area of Republic and Cloud Co. Jacob Ross Jr. and Eliza (Elizabeth Ann Barnes) (1) Messenger (2) Ross Chauncey Monroe Messenger married Hester Elena Palmer Eliza Messenger Ross was Chauncey mother and Jacob Ross Jr was his stepfather his brother Edwin Milo Messenger and Sarah Ann (Bray) was in Republic Co., KS for a short time then moved back to the area Clinton, Henry Co., MO Hester Elena Palmer was daughter of f Lewis Sears Palmer and Mary Jane Richmond who later returned to Blue Earth Co., MN Lewis remarried in Blue Earth Co., MN after the Mary Jane's death in 1879. Eliza Ross nephew E. Stanton moved with this large family to Republic Co as well as Aby family. Harrison Palmer and Mary Jane Buck married in Blue Earth Co., MN then moved back to MN around 1880. Maybe your Palmer lines you wrote about. I will look into this.
