Surnames: Brooks, Johnson Classification: Death Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADI/120 Message Board Post: Mr. David Johnson returned last Monday morning from Belleville, Republic county, Kansas, whither he had gone to attend a brother-in-law, Mr. Henry Brooks, who had been prostrated with an attack of inflammatory rheumatism. When he arrived, Mr. Brooks had been dead since the day before, and could only aid in his burial obsequies. Mr. Johnson represents the county and its inhabitants in a most deplorable state of destitution. The drouth has prevailed to such an extent as to almost defy the power of vegetation to withstand it. The inhabitants are ematiated beyond comprehension and starvation stares them grimly in the face; and unless aid can reach them much suffering must ensue, before their scanty crops can be of any avail.
