Daughhette, Milton A. and his wife Mary Myers (a sister of Conrad Myers), homesteaded the NW l/4 Sec. 31 Grant Twp. They were the parents of: George; Ellen; Joel; Ida; John and Lydia.The daughter, Ida, married Alex Henderson and they lived on the Daughhette farm during and after the death of Mrs.Daughhette. They were the parents' of: James; Joe; Doctor; Maynard; Paul; Wayne; Mary; Nan; Margaret; Freda; Ida and Virginia. (By Mrs. John Myers and Mrs. Agnes Tolbert) ---------------------- School District No. 26. Zion SE corner of the SE 1/4 Sec. 25 Lincoln Township. School organized March 30, 1871. First school board: Milton A. Daughhette, Director; Ferdinand Sorgatz, Clerk and George E. White, Treasurer. This quarter section was owned by Norman S. and his wife, Sarah Lowell. They were the parents of: Tone J., William (married Frances Johnson), Fred (married Anna Jensen), Guy (married Maud Nutter), Ella (married Oliver Page 352 ---------------------------------- Alexander and Jessie Henderson were the parents of five children: David, Margaret, Jean, Alex and Pete. The first three wereborn in Scotland. Alex was born in New York City in 1870, thesame year the Hendersons came west and Pete was born in Minersville. David married Minnie Linn; Margaret married Thomas Struthers; Jean married Thomas. Wilson, Alex married Ida Daughhetteand Pete married Rettie Murray. Alexander Henderson died Oct.15, 1897. His wife, Jessie, died Oct. 29, 1894. Both buried in Zion Cemetery. -------------------------------- Zion Cemetery was organized Nov. 22, 1882. The acre of land in the NW corner of the SW 1/4 of Sec. 30 Grant township, Republic county, Kansas was contributed for the cemetery from the homestead of J. H. Smock. Many burials had been made here previous to 1882. Many graves are unknown and the people forgotten, as the graves were not marked. John Henry Smock, his wife and some of their children are buried here. The first settlers of Republic county, Conrad Myers and John Cory and their wives rest here, as well as many other remembered names in the community, viz:Shafer; Blackwood; Sherwood; Daughhette; Shenaman; McClean; Kunkel; Clark; Petty John; Johnson; Jeardoe; Dewey; Vanek; Hubbard; Welch; Jewell; Jackson; Henderson; Trowbridge; Dixon; Gordon; Parker; Feasel; Lowell; Kempton; Whan; Buck; Curtis; Horner; Mackie; Corbutt; Dodge; Creighton; Goppert; Larsen; Smith; and others.
