Author: PATIDOR Surnames: Elliott, Curts Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/276/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been trying to find a relative, Guildford Elliott, born in Harrison County, Missouri. Believe he settled in Cass County, MO after the Civil War, and had two children by his wife Anna. One was Joseph C Elliott, and I have traced someone with that name and whose parents were born in Missouri and Kentucky. I think this Joe Elliott owned the hotel in Belleville. His sister's name was Margaret J and his mother was Zella. Would like to know if this is the correct Joseph Elliott, and if the family knew of the grandmother, Eliza Elliott. I think she is buried in a Courtland cemetery along with Guildford Monroe Elliott. I think she is in the census for 1885 in Scandia, along with her two youngest sons, Melvil and Joseph. Her husband Cornelius Thomas had died in 1875 and she left Harrison County, MO. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. My father is 96 and his father was Guildford's brother. They both served in the Civil War, and later, when William Henry Elliott went to Kansas they lost track of Guildford. Am just curious as to whether or not the family of Joseph C. is related. Thank any and all of you for whatever information you can give me. We are trying to fill in the gaps in our family sheets. I was born in Hutchinson and hope to make one more trip there to revisit the area, and planned to go to Courtland Cemetery. If there are any descendents of Guildford, Joseph or James Elliott I think it would be wonderful to learn of them. Also wanted to add that if I have found a link, these members of the Elliott family are descendents of Capt. Samuel Elliott of Licking County Ohio. He came to US in 1771 and we have a LOT of information about the family. Patricia Elliott Meyer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Janet, My husbands family is from Belleville, KS, I am in California.?? We visited there long ago ('89).? His great grandfather James C. Humphrey immigrated from Ontario, Canada in 1868.? And since he published The Telescope newspaper in Belleville, a lot of info has came from his newspaper that is still in business.? The only cemeteries I know are in Belleville.? I have the 2 County History books that were printed in 1901 and 1964.? I keep track of this mailing list and do look-ups in the books.? There is a great library in Belleville that is very helpful.? They have all kinds of 'personal' info such as scrap books, personal photos.? http://www.nckcn.com/BellevilleLibrary/homepage.htm Happy Hunting! The county seat is Belleville, KS.......... all the towns in Republic Co. are very small.? If he is All of Republic county has SMALL towns.? Haven't tried to get records anywhere except in Belleville since that is where James C. Humphrey lived as owner and editor of The Telescope newspaper. Don't know where the cemetery would be for your records but Belleville should know. If Dr. Scott's death was registered, Belleville Court house should have the records since they are the County Seat.? BUT DON"T forget the Belleville Library.? It is very small but loaded with local info.? I found a scrap with many photos in it of the Humphrey family.? Very personal information along with it.? The girls there are very helpful.
