Author: oops1962 Surnames: Robertson, Million, Verley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/281.4.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi: Lena Robertson Verley is the sister to my great-grandfather, Bennett Robert Robertson. Their parents were John Helm Robertson and Martha "Patsy" Million. They also had another brother, John Lewis Robertson. I've been trying to find any information I can about her. These three siblings were split up at a young age when Patsy Robertson died. Lena was raised by her maternal grandparents, Bennett was raised by his mother's sister, while John Lewis Robertson was sent to his father's parents. This happened in the early 1860's. Bennett was born 1860-1861 and John Helm Robertson was a widower by 1864. I'd love to share info. Thanks. Chris Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: repcomuse Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/307.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have looked in our cemetery records and marriage records and the only thing I have found on Margaret is her marriage to Calvin. He is buried in Republic County, Kansas but there is no listing for her, this does not mean she isn't buried here because on both Calvin and May's entry it says there is not a stone but it is in the book~no idea what book they are talking about though. I did find in the Cuba Daylight (newspaper)dated 2/7/1896 "Mrs. Calvin Carpenter has been on the sick list this week." Possible she passed away and was buried in Willoughby Cemetery and there is no record. Most of the newspapers of Republic County are on line at http://belleville.newspaperarchive.com. I don't know what else you will find but you never know what is in there once you start perusing. If I find anything else I will let you know. Possibly born around 1866 in Kansas. She married Calvin Carpenter and they had a child, May Carpenter, in 1893. Little May died in 1895 and is buried in the Willoughby Cemetery. I know that this marriage did not last as Calvin married someone else a few years later. I know there were Haworth's living in the area - Wondering if Margaret and Calvin were divorced - or if she passed away. Author: sherylmc72 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/294.1.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: from the Scandia paper: JOSEPH JENNINGS DIES IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA Mr. Joseph Jennings, 84, died in San Diego, Calif., on Oct. 22, 1935 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jessie Miller. Jennings was an old resident of Scandia, having been in the photography business here. He built the first brick building in Scandia, the Jennings building, which is now occupied by the hardware store. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a 1972 Scandia paper, it states that the brick building which once housed the hardware store has a plate with "J. Jennings, 1882" above the second story windows. Perhaps that dates his business in Scandia to 1882? Unfortunately Google Maps has not photographed the streets of Scandia so I can't see it for myself. I was told our County Agriculture Office has a copy of all of those taken for our county. You may want to go to your local Ag Office and see if they have any on file. I would suggest you take a description of the farm location with you. We have very little information on the Harsh's, who were the owners of Photomaps. As to what has become of their photos we are not sure. No one really knows where the family is at, if there is any family left. Good luck in your search for the pictures. Sorry we could not be of any more help to you. Sincerely, Sherrie Larson Republic County Historical Society Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
