I just own the book I sourced with the information on your family. BUT.... The local library at Belleville is VERY helpful. If there is anything known about that town, the girls in the library will copy and send if they have it or lead you to the correct source. I was surprised to find that they have a personal scrapbook of our relatives that was one of the 3 at settled in that town. James C. Humphrey started the first newspaper there. Below is their email address. Please try them. Good Luck, Beth bplstaff@nckcn.com

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADI/132.1 Message Board Post: Hi Phyllis, Sorry don't have your obit but are these people related to you? James I. McCullough built the present brick building in 1892 and sold the second story to the Masonic Lodge No. 129 A.F. & A.M. A basement room entered by stairways on the southeast corner of the building was occupied by various barbers, Weightman and Elliott, A. Smith and Wm. and T. Shafer and the publishing of the "Democrat", a weekly newspaper. The first floor was occupied by Hostetler Bros. and Casper as a general merchandise and grocery store. Later it was "Hosteller Brothers" John and Jacob Hosteller. In 1900 they purchased the two little frame buildings north of them, the north one was Art Alexander's restaurant and candy shop which was succeeded by Curly Weaver and the south one as a barber shop of Weightman and later of Joe Elliott. Hostetlers replaced these with a one story brick building as an addition to their store and included shoes, women's wearing apparel and men's clothing. This was then known as "The big double store on the corner". Edmund (Epp) Carstensen joined the firm and was in charge of this department. It was then "Hostetler Brothers and Carstensen," Mr. Carstensen left the firm in 1914 and went to Grand Junction, Colorado, with his wife, who was formerly Lenoir Patterson, the daughter of J. T. Patterson, Probate Judge and former resident of Belleville, and his two children Marjorie (now Mrs. James. Karnes) and Joe, both of Los Angeles, California. Abe Hardy, Will Patterson, Roy Nixon, Grace Chambers, Emma McCullough, Nora Collins, Mrs. Electa Wray, Rosie Rost Myrtle Anderson now Mrs. Wm. Wilbert, were long- time clerks. Emma McCullough and Wm. Goodwin cashiers here. 3. I've "rescued" an old autograph album which originally belonged to Laura A. OXLEY of Clarinda, Iowa. The book is dated 1883 and includes entries from both family and friends. Based on limited research and with the assistance of an HAZEN Family researcher I believe that the book likely belonged to Laura Asenath OXLEY b. 6 June 1863 to parents Ethan Irvin OXLEY and Asenath Elnora ALLEN. Laura married Delose Spartacus HAZEN on the 22nd of July 1888 in Irving, Kansas, and Laura died 2 Aug 1949 in Republic Co., Kansas. The OXLEY Family was living in Polk, IA during the 1880 census including, Ethan I. age 43, born in OH, a Farmer whose parents were born in VA and OH respectively, his wife A. E. age 41, born in IL, noting that her Mother was born in CT. The family included 9 children at that time including, L. G. (male) age 19, Laura age 17, Ethan I. age 13, Frankie age 12, Dora age 11, Mirty age 7, Tokay (female) age 5, Lawrence age 3, and Harvey age 1, all born in IA. Laura's husband Delos was b. 23 Nov 1853 in Jefferson, OH. Laura and Delos HAZEN had 4 children, Clifford Spartacus b. 26 Oct 1890, Irvin Bradford b. 3 Nov 1892, Mabel Clair b. 8 Jan 1894, and Sanford Ethan b. 7 Nov 1896. All four children born at Wayne, Kansas. Daughter Mabel married Fred Daniel SISSELL on 20 Aug 1912, though I don't believe they had any children. I'm hoping to be able to return this treasure to the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
