    1. Agenda Area - Anyone Familiar With the Rural Area South?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Simmons, The Area South of Agenda Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADI/148 Message Board Post: I have plat maps and ariel views of the area south of Agenda in which my Great-Grandparents owned land, and where my grandfather lived. I am looking for someone who is familiar with area that might be willing to help me find an address of who lives at the location in which my family possibly lived. To get to the right area, you would take the road on the west edge of Agenda and go south, probably about 2 miles. I have seen this road listed on some maps today as County Route 27 5/10. Aprox. 2 miles south of Agenda, there is a cemetery on the east side of the road. The train tracks (or where the train tracks used to run) would be just east of this road too). I don't know what this cemetery is called, but it is probably a fairly small cemetery, and should date back at least prior to 1900. In the early 1900's, a school sat there in front of the cemetery and it was School No. 40. My grandfather attended this school. This cemetery (and where this school once sat) is just ! to the northern edge of what was my family's property. They would have owned the land south from the cemetery, to the next road south. (They also owned the land on the west side of the road too. In otherwords, the road cut their land in half.) Their home would have sat on the east side of the road, the same side as the cemetery. From the arial views of this land today, there appears to be buildings and/or a farm still sitting exactly where my family's home and farm would have been in the early 1900's. What I would like to know is if anybody can possibly help me with who owns this farm today, or what the address is, or how the road is addressed. I can't locate any listings going by the County Route 27 5/10 in any internet directories. I would like to contact these people by mail and ask some questions about the land and whether or not my family's home still exists today. Likewise, there is a family story that my grandparents had an infant child that died and that th! is child was actually buried on their land, next to the cemetery, but not in the cemetery. I don't know if this true or not, however. If anybody can me with this "needle in a haystack" request, I would so much appreciate it! If anybody thinks they might be able to help, I could email them directly the plat maps and the ariel views which might help them see exactly what farm I'm talking about. Thank you! LaDonna

    2. All listings for Dancy name and Prarie Rose Cemetery. Good Luck. Beth Page 167 (children of Joseph and Alma Sjoholm Johnson). Mr. and Mrs. Charley Isaacson retired and moved to Scandia in 1905 where he died in 1930 and Mrs. Isaacson in 1937. Wm. and Rebecca Davis Dancy settled in section 18-2-4 in March 1883 where they spent the rest of their lifetime. The children were Charles, John, Abigail Dick, Jesse, Frances Ward Smith, Rose Eiler, Hattie Shellenberger, Bula Charles, Benjamin and James. Robert and Abigail Dick later lived on this farm with their children: Gertrude, Sweet, Walter and Fred. A niece, Bertha, and Sime Van Nortwick, Russell, Ralph, Leonard, John, June Elliott and Pauline Gunn lived on the family farm. Ralph and Leonard and families also lived on the place and Leonard taught district 61 where his relatives, Rose and Bula Dancy, had taught in early days. The farm sold, and Cheslie and Enola Stier Boylan, Lynn Ellen, Pamela and Kimberly operate the land in 1962. ---------------------- Page 8 The Pike Monument and State Park are located in White Rock Township, NE 1/4, Section 3. This homestead had belonged to Ralph's great grandfather. They farmed this farm until the flood of 1935 which ruined their crop along with all those in the Republican Valley. Later they lived on the L. W. Smith farm for a few months. This farm had belonged to Ralph's grandparents, Perez and Fannie Smith. For a period of 18 months Ralph was a butcher for Raymond Mitchell, at his farm, northeast of Republic. From April 1937 to March, Ralph operated the Kansas Filling Station in Harbine, Kansas, the area on the Kansas side of the line at Byron, Neb. Ralph received his elementary education at Dist. 61 in Union Township and Avis at Prairie Dell in Big Bend. Both graduated from Republic High school. Avis taught at King and Washington school which have been disbanded. ------------------- Simon and Bertha VanNortwick moved to Osborne County in 1909. However in 1917, the ties of Republic County, became too ***** Page 69 great, and they returned to Union Township, where they purchased the Dancy homestead located three miles south of Republic. This farm was homesteaded by Bertha's grandfather and remained in the family until January, 1947, when they had a farm sale and moved into Republic. They lived in Republic for a number of years then moved to Camarilla, California, to be near their children. ---------------------- Source: History of Republic County 1868-1964 By Republic County Historical Society Compiled By Anona Shaw Blackburn (Mrs. Edgar) Courtland, Kansas Myrtle Strom Cardwell (Mrs. Homer) Republic, Kansas Copyright 1964 Published By The Belleville Telescope, Belleville, Kansas Beth _www.Beth-website.net_ (http://www.beth-website.net/) Stained Glass & Genealogy Photos: _www.BHumphrey.photosite.com_ (http://www.bhumphrey.photosite.com/)

    1. Jeremiah Franklin Dalton, aka., James Frank Darby
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DALTON, DARBY, ANDERSON Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Vm.2ADI/147 Message Board Post: I am seeking any information on a James Frank Darby who came to Belleville, in Republic County, Kansas sometime before 1900 and apparently lived there until he died on August 3, 1947. Any information on his life there would really be appreciated. James was enumerated in census in Belleville in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census. His occupation was first recorded as a merchant, but later he owned and operated a Billard Hall in Belleville. Sometime between 1900 and 1910 he met and married to Andrea M. Anderson. Of Danish parents, Andrea was born in either Denmark or Germany on Juky 30, 1877. I have not been able to find them in the 1930 census. As stated in the subject line, James Frank Darby's real name was Jeremiah Franklin Dalton. Born on August 14, 1864 in Lansing, Leavenworth County, Kansas, he was the son of William Clark Meredith and Josevine (Morris) Dalton. James grew up during the time of Jesse James and the later mystery that maybe Jesse really wasn't murdered like everyone thought. Chapter Ten of Nancy B. Samuelson's book, The Dalton Gang Story, is entitled "Dubious, Doubtful, and Deceptive Daltons." In it she talks about "faction, myth, and legend" surrounding the Dalton Gang. One of those involved a J. Frank Dalton and his possible identity as Frank Dalton of the Dalton Gang family, killed in 1887 while serving as a U.S. Deputy Marshall. Another story was that J. Frank Dalton was really Jesse James, who had faked his own death. In her research, Nancy investigated many leads while trying to identify exactly who this J. Frank Dalton really was. The following excerpt from her book ties this mystery to our Dalton line: Page 165, "The Dalton Gang Story:" "Several people have thought for a long while he (Jesse James) was really Jeremiah Franklin Dalton born near Lansing, Kansas in 1864 and the son of William Clark Meredith Dalton and Josephine Morris. This man was known to have married a woman named Andrea Anderson. A tip from a descendant of this William Dalton family enabled this author to track down Jeremiah Franklin Dalton. Jeremiah changed his name to Darby and he died in Belleville, Kansas on 3 August 1947, about a year before J. Frank made his Jesse claim. The death certificate and the estate records of J. Frank Darby leave no doubt that he and Jeremiah Franklin Dalton were the same man. So the search for the true identity of J. Frank Dalton goes on." Jeremiah's alias is also supported by Probate Court Records filed by Andrea M. Darby, widow of J. F. Darby, to determine descent after his death on August 3, 1947, in Belleville, Republic County, Kansas. In a letter written to Nancy B. Samuelson on January 27, 1989, Douglas G. Simms, Attorney-At-Law, wrote: "J.F. Darby, a/k/a J. Frank Darby died in Belleville, Kansas, on August 3, 1947. His body was cremated and the urn was buried in his wife's grave in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa. He was survived by his wife, Andrea Anderson Darby. She died October 12, 1958."
