    1. HANCOCK Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of John & Ella HANCOCK with four of their children, Ivy, Hackeye, Web, and Claude. The photograph was taken at the J. Jennings Studio in Scandia, Kansas likely sometime during the 1880's. A note on the back of the photograph suggests that the photo was taken sometime around 1884. I would guess that the children range in age from about 2 - 5 years at the time with Ivy appearing to be the oldest of the four children. A note also refers to John & Ella as "Ma and Pa". Based on limited research I was able to find information regarding the family beginning with the 1900 census records for Rutland, KS. Records indicate the following: John I. HANCOCK, age 45, born Dec 1854, married 25 years, born IN, parents born IN, a Farmer Ella A. HANCOCK, wife, age 44, born Sept 1855, married 25 years, 8 children/7 living, born IA, parents born VT/? Rhoda P. HANCOCK, dau, age 13, born Nov 1886, born KS Albert V. HANCOCK, son, age 10, born Mar 1890, born IA, a Farm Laborer Oliver A. HANCOCK, son, age 9, born Feb 1893, born IA William H. HANCOCK, son, age 8, born Dec 1896, born IA In the 1900 census of Plainville, KS I was able to find record of Webster HANCOCK, believed to be the child referred to as "Web" in the photograph. He was a servant in the home of William & Cora A. ROBINSON with census info for Webster as follows: Webster HANCOCK, age 17, born Dec 1882, born IA, parents born IN/IA, a Dry Goods Salesman And then in 1920 I find Ivy HANCOCK living in Independence, KS with her father and census records provide the following information: Iva HANCOCK, age 42, born IA, parents born IN/IA, a Physician John HANCOCK, Father, age 69, a widower, born IN, parents born KY/IN I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with the family. If you are a member of the family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
