Author: MaryBethAdams Surnames: Buchanan, West Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/269/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for four brothers, James, Charles, Richard and Harlan West. I last found Charles, age 50, in the 1915 Kansas state census with his brothers and sister, Flora, living in Fairview. James, age 52 and Richard, age 54, were living in Munden City in the 1920 census. Harlan, age 49, was in Belleville in the 1920 census. As far as I know, none of them ever married. They were all born in Putnam Co., Illinois. Moved to Kansas between the 1870 and 1880 census. Their father and mother, Robert and Nancy, and another sister, Fannie, are buried in the Farmington Cemetery. Any help would be soooo appreciated. Author: powercat75 Surnames: West Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/104.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I think Thomas was married in Scandia. Far as I can tell the three West brothers (Thomas, William, and John) all came to the US about the same time. John was the last to arrive, but Thomas and William both took up homesteads in early Scandia as mentioned in the history of Republic county available on this website. If Jesse/Janet married a West and died around 1889, I can give you a little info on the West line. Otherwise my guess could be wrong. We can use email for more details (powercat75@hotmail.com). I don't know as much about Thomas, as William is my direct line, but I do know who their parents are and have some of the England info on them. In all there were 7 siblings in the family, three I know came to Scandia or nearby. They include Daniel McGuire, Catherine McGuire Hay and Margaret McGuire Lowden (narried to James). Their youngest sibling, Jessie or Janet McGuire was born on April 20, 1852 in Saltcoats, Ayr, Scotland. I have her in Scotland thru the 1861 Census and other info. She may have gone to England, married and also came to America. Do you want to continue this exchange by email to see if we have a match? Catherine McGuire married John Hay. Their son was Thomas b. Sept 3, 1862 in Tarbolton, Ayr, Scotland, married Frances Ella Wrigley who must be your grandmother's cousin. I am aware of three daughters by Thomas and Ella - Bessie, Martha Estella and Della May - and would be very interested in having further information about this family. I would be happy to share info about Catherine's siblings and families if you are interested. When it warms up and dries out, I'd be grateful for burial info for Catherine McGuire Hay and John Hay, and any of their 7 children. I can give you their names and birthdates if that would help. Thomas and J's youngest was Thomas Jr. born in 1889 and the oldest is Bessie born in 1882. Thomas has no wife in 1900. Does this match anything you have? Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/262/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for the husband, marriage, and any information on Nettie CHAKA or CJEKA or CEKJA BROWN. Her first name may be Antoinette or the Czech Antonija. In the 1895 KS census, her first name is given as Artonna. I don't know what Czech name Nettie is derived from. She was born around 1881 in Bohemia and immigrated about 1885. She died after 1930 in the Winfield, IA, area. Her father was Frank CHAKA or CJEKA or CEKJA born 12/25/1850 in Bohemia and died 9/5/1919 in Tabor, KS, immigrated 1885, and is buried in the Tabor Cemetery. I found her sister, Mary Ann CHAKA or CJEKA or CEKJA WUSSOW in the 1900 census, working in Belleville, Republic, Kansas. Mary married in 1903 and was cited as being from Cuba, Kansas. The family was said to live in Munden, KS. I suspect that Frank may never have owned land, but may have been a farm laborer who moved. He emigrated with an older woman, either his mother or mother-in-law(b. c. 1810 - 35), who may have been a STRANSKY or STERBA or STUBA. I have never found information on her. Nettie had one son, Merle BROWN, born Feb 1898 in either Kansas or Iowa. I know nothing about his father. I have found Nettie in the 1910 Federal census in Iowa, a widower and with Merle. I have absolutely no information on her prior to that in Kansas, except in the 1895 Kansas Census where she is listed as Artonna, 16, and is living in Fairview Township, Republic, KS, with her father and sister. Any help in finding her and her husband and marriage or the birth of Merle, would be appreciated.

Henry and Missouri are in the following cemetery on the Republic website, however, there are no birth or death dates or details: "UNION CEMETERY (Grant Township, Republic County) is located in the southwest corner of the southeast 160 acres of Section 16, approximately one mile south of Wayne, Kansas on what was originally the Olof Englund farm when Union was first laid out. Ms. Maddy's family (Campbell and Tuthill, two of the founding families of Republic County) are interned here. The majority of those burried here were born in the 1800s (1810 earliest birthdate). The families are: Burgess - Agnes (Long), Ella May, Infant, Henry, Missouri, William H. " http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/republic/Swedish/CemList.html There is also a KS 1895 Census. It is accessible through many family centers and will provide further info on this family.
