    1. [KSREPUBL] PASSMORE Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of three young ladies which was taken at the Johnston Studio in Belleville, KS sometime in the 1890's. The message on the back of the photograph says "Here we are looking at you" and is it signed by Sadie PASSMORE to Mrs. EUSTICE with compliments. I believe that Sadie is likely one of the young ladies in the photograph based on that message, but I don't know who the others might be, or what their relationship to Mrs. EUSTICE might be, their teacher maybe. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Sadie and what may be at least one of her sisters (Grace PASSMORE) in the photograph as well: Sarah Esabel "Sadia" or "Sadie" PASSMORE was b. 23 Feb 1884 in Belleville, KS to parents Henry Gabriel PASSMORE (1845-1929) and Margaret "Maggie" FAGAN (1855-1944). She was one of 14 children born to this couple including, Anna Laura; Mary "Mayme" Catherine; Mary Jane; Alice Maud; Johnny; Grace Idona; Sadie; Willie; Maggie May; Myrtle or Myrnee H.; Charles "Charlie" Gabriel or R.; Walter Edwin; Donald; and Harry PASSMORE all born between 1873 and 1897. Sadie married Charles Benjamin CARBUTT (1883-1981) and together they had two children, Enid M. CARBUTT (b. 1906); and Cyrus or Syrus Gabriel CARBUTT (1908-1988). Sadie died 31 Mar 1944 in Talmo, KS. Census records provide the following details: 1900 census of Grant, KS: Henry G. PASSMORE, age 54, born Dec 1845, married 29 years, born IL, parents born OH/KY, a Farmer Maggie PASSMORE, wife, age 46, born Mar 1854, married 29 years, 12 children/6 living, born PA, parents born Ireland Grace I. PASSMORE, dau, age 19, born Jan 1880, born KS, a School Teacher Sarah I. PASSMORE, dau, age 17, born Feb 1883, born KS, at School Myrtle H. PASSMORE, dau, age 11, born Jan 1889, born KS, at School Charlie R. PASSMORE, son, age 8, born Nov 1891, born KS, at School Walter E. PASSMORE, son, age 6, born Nov 1893, born KS I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old treasure can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of the family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [KSREPUBL] Estate of Jane Summers
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jmkirkley38 Surnames: SUMMERS, SUMMER, CANNON, GILBERT Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kansas.counties.republic/314/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I found a newspaper article in Belleville Telescope dated 14 February 1908, in which it states that David Summers of Courtland was appointed administrator of the estate of Jane Summers deceased. Is there an obituary for Jane Summers? Where is she buried? Were she and David Summers married? Siblings? Relatives? Is Jane Summers her full name? I'm looking for Sarah Jane (Gilbert) CANNON. She was married to Felix B. CANNON in 1877. In 1897, they were divorced in Phillipsburg, Kansas. In the divorce settlement, Felix gave Sarah 80 acres in the NE area of Phillipsburg. She had a millinery shop in Belleville 1898/1899. Her mother passed away in 1900 (Osilla Duff Gilbert) in Pawnee, Sangamon County, Illinois. Sarah is the sister of Rachael Louella Gilbert Summer in Republic County. I recently learned from an ancestor of Felix B. Cannon's brother Finis R Cannon, that "Sarah J. and David Summer sold back SJ's divorce lands to Felix for $2000 in mid 1907. No mention of where SJ and David were living." Felix died in February 1907, so it would have been difficult to sell land back to him. Perhaps the land was sold back to his 3rd wife, Laura Tilney Cannon? Any leads from Republic County or Phillipsburg County? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The S. W. you mention is the Stephen W. I am looking for. I received a little more information from Washington County, where he resided. But . . . I have been searching for many years for the parents of my great grandfather Albert Hankins. Everything I find points toward Stephen W.'s son William A. being my Albert but I can find no absolute proof. Stephen and Albert were both living in Haddam at the 1885 census. William A. cannot be found after the 1870 census at Scott, Mahaska, Iowa. William A. was born Feb 1860 in Monroe County, Iowa. Albert was born 20 Feb 1861 in Monroe County, Iowa (record kept by his semi-illiterate wife). My only hope seems to be if Albert is mentioned in Stephen W.'s obituary or some other newspaper reference. I would welcome any suggestions you might have. Again, thanks. Hawkins. The only information it gives is a death date of Feb. 16, 1888. I have looked for the obituary in the Republic County newspapers online (http://belleville.newspaperarchive.com/Default.aspx) and have not come up with anything. Not all of the county papers are up yet so if there is an obit, it may be in one of the ones not up on line yet. I have not found anything in our files on him or his family either. His location in the Hawks cemetery is Lot 128 1, if that helps. Republic County Historical Society Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
