He married Nellie Benson in 1899 and they had two children, Ruth Grogan Marlow, Mrs. Robert Rumble and Harry Grogan. The family originated in southern Illinois (Jefferson County) but ended up in Hutchinson, KS, where Nellie died in 1959.
